DSD going through puberty soon.....help?!?!?

Anyone been through this with a kid??  Obviously I've been through it myself, but...  She was here last night and called me up to the bathroom - she had had a poop accident all over the bathroom.  Told me it just came out faster than she thought and she didn't make the toilet.  Said she wasn't sick, and felt fine, but I'm wondering.  DH is going to call her mom just to give her a heads up to be on the lookout for anything.  Should I be worried or think it was just one of those things???  FWIW she's 14.

  • What?!?!  She called you up there for you to see it?!  I can tell you that my 14 year old would have rather DIED than to show me that.  Not normal in my book. Strange.  I had to re-read your post several times to make sure you were not talking about a young child. I would expect that from my 4 year old, to be honest.
  • I thought it was weird....she called me up there because she tried to clean it up and it was on the rug and bathmat - and then I found it on the shower curtain.

  • TMI alert, but when I was a teen, I often had diarrhea when I had my period. I Googled it years later (obviously no Google back then, and I never discussed it with anyone), but evidently the body releases a chemical to "release" your blood/tissue buildup, and it can also cause diarrhea.

And OMG, I seriously would have been mortified and would have rather scrubbed the bathroom top to bottom before I told my stepmom about it.

  • I don't think that a "poop" accident has anything with going through puberty. My DS is going through puberty and we are dealing with things like armpit hair and self-discovery. I'd be more concerned about her health than anything else.

  • I'm so confused.  What does it have to do with puberty?  Am I missing something?  Why would you be worried?  It sounds like she had an accident and panicked about not knowing how to clean it up.

What are you wondering?  What should her mom be on the lookout for?

    Did I mention I'm confused?

That's what I was thinking might be going on.  She WAS mortified, but didn't know what to do, and I guess we have a really good relationship so she felt ok calling me.  I tried to not make a big deal out of it and just made sure she was ok and that the dirty things made it to the basement where the washer is.  I asked her today once if she was feeling ok, but other than that, didn't say anything.  Didn't want to make her feel odd.

  • I think she's fine, and that it took courage to tell you about it.  I wouldn't be worried about her at all, except to make sure she's feeling okay.  Don't really think it has anything to do w/puberty.

  • I frequently get diarrhea with my period--and so does my mom. I know for a fact that one of my good friends does, too. I think the hateful responses are awful.

I don't think my response was hateful at all, if you're referring to my confused reply. I get diarrhea often with my period too, but I was/am confused why OP couldn't just ask her DSD if she was having her period. If DSD felt comfortable enough to ask her for help cleaning the mess up, asking her if its due to her period is not out of line at all. From op's previous posts about her DSD, it sounds like they have a great relationship, so why not be open about it? That is the part that is still confusing me.

  • It wasn't directed at you--but there were a lot who I thought were hateful with their responses.
