This is our first and I hope last case of diaper rash ever! I been using but paste and aquaphore but don't know how long it should take to get better. I feel so bad for him!
I talked to an advice nurse the other day who had these tips:
-sit him in a bath of water w/ baking soda to neutralize the acid
-use a blow dryer on cold to thoroughly dry the area
-put on a layer of the old-fashioned Desitin that's very thick and hard to remove. leave it on at the next diaper change, just get rid of what you need to to clean him up, then add another layer.
-don't use wipes, use soft paper towel/kleenex or cloth
We didn't actually use these tips so I can't say how they work (she was telling them to me in case he got a diaper rash from the meds he was on) but they seem like good ideas!
You've got some great ideas---when it was bad for the boys, Balmex worked best for us. I would really slather that on at bedtime so it would create a nice barrier. GL!
Are you sure it is not a yeast infection? If he has been on anitbiotics, it may be a yeast infection and not diaper rash. My little sister used to get those quite frequently. We would use the yeast infection cream, and it would heal up very quickly.
For the boys, we use the Wal-Mart brand A&D cream. It clears up any diaper rash they have had within a diaper change or two. I keep it around and use it anytime I see a reddish area. We have yet to have any terrible diaper rash problems yet.
i found out after a few days that our one and only diaper rash to date was yeast. If it's raised and spread that might be it. I used Lotramin AF and it was gone in 2 days.
Re: Help with diaper rash
As much diaper-free time as you can do!
And we alternate from Desitin to Aquaphor...
