wdyt: double stroller?

ok- SO we registered (mainly for the $ off at the end) for a double  stroller. well, from my shower at school, and a 20% off coupon i have more than enough to get it now... DH is now hesitant. He says DS always wants to walk... eh, yes. but me pushing a baby and trying to chase a running 2 year old... i don't think that will work....

so what do i do? wait it out for a little bit so DH can see how "easy" it is? or go get it?

coupon expires at the end of the month.

  • Unless DH is going to be with the 2 kids and you all the time, the I say go get it!   Keep the receipt and don't open the box in case he throws a fit.

  • If he always wants to walk, then maybe try some version of a Sit 'n Stand stroller.  I loved our Joovy Caboose for that reason - Sarah loved to stand and hold on while I pushed the stroller because it gave her a sense of control.  She was super active at that age and hated to be confined in a regular stroller.

We didn't get a double stroller until E. was almost four months old and it's a small regret....I wished we had bought one earlier.

  • I used the double stroller a lot more than I thought I would.  Alex always wanted to walk, but he also wanted in the stroller if Foster was in it.  It made trips to the mall and places like that a lot easier.

  • get it. i use mine all the time. sure, T is capable of walking and likes to walk, but sometimes i need him strapped in. Parking lots and parking garages are the main things that come to mind. trust me- i've had to choose between chasing my running toddler and leaving my infant alone in his stroller -or- letting my toddler outpace me while i try to push an infant as fast as i can through a parking lot. never again. it's a nightmare and always ends in tears for at least 2 of the 3 parties involved.

also, today we went to the mall and DH and I can far outlast T on an outing like that. he chose to ride on the back of the sit'n'stand for the last 1/2 of the trip.

  • I'm always the lone dissenter here.  We never bought one and never missed one.  O rejected the stroller by 18 months so we never brought one just for him.  I'm also not SAHM so I don't do solo outings with the two very often which helped.

And I think I have an unusually active child.  We met his best friend at the mall on Saturday afternoon.  Not only did O walk the whole time but the two of them chased each other in circles, went up and down the escalators and elevators, climbed benches, etc.

  • Thank you for posting this. I've been debating the same thing.  I think I'm leaning more towards getting one...now, which one? The search begins!

I completely agree with this whole post.  The feeling of utter helplessness when your toddler runs off when you have your infant with you is one of the most frustrating things ever.  A double stroller was absolutely vital for my sanity.
