Mainly we use the floor. LOL! Ok but seriously, we have one of those 3 level 4 bins each row multi colored bins toy rack things. It was about $50-$60 at TRU. We have it in our living room and it holds pretty much all DD's toys except for the big ride ons/push toys.
Its not very 'decor-ish' though but hey we have kids not like I have a ming vase for it to clash with. haha.
In our living room we have a giant basket I got at Homegoods or somewhere that we use as a toy box. In our playroom we have the ikea expedit bookcase and baskets. We also put shelves in the playroom closet and use a bunch of the milk crate like storage bins. The bookcase looks like this:

I have the exact same shelving but in expresso. We have 6 of them in our playroom/great room. Love them.
We have quite a few solutions spread out through the house.
Downstairs, in the living room, we use a chest my sister gave us. It's large, and doubles as a window seat. Then scattered throughout the living room, we have these faux leather cube bins from Target tucked into the entertainment center/side table and along the bottom of one of the console tables. We have a pretty large square coffee table, with a bottom shelf (sort of), and we have really large baskets, also from Target, that slide in and out.
I am a believer in quick and easy storage, so I just buy bins whenever I see any on clearance, even if they're slightly mismatched with what we already have. I bought a ton over the summer, and thought I'd never use them all, but now they're all in the work/art room, brimming with toys/coloring books/craft stuff, or in the kids' rooms, fill with books/toys.

We have these (all in white). One in our family room under the wall mounted t.v., one in the playroom downstairs and one in ds's room.

We have a bench with slide out baskets, some fabric baskets that slide under our coffee table, fabric cubes that store on the bookshelves. There are toys hidden in the TV armoire. DD also has a bench (her dollhouse sits on top of it) with storage cubbies underneath in her room.
Every free inch is hidden toy storage. I can't wait to finish the basement.
I have a faux leather ottoman that we use as her toy chest. The rest of her things are either up in her bedroom or in baskets on the floor.
In her bedroom I have the 9-cube cube organizer from Target with the fabric bins. It looks great and works perfectly in her space.
But for our living room, I'm considering this. My SIL, my sister & my best friend all have it and rave about it. It's a little pricey but if it contains the clutter, I'm all for it!
