Minnesota Babies

Help an OR Bumpie!

Hello ladies!

I will be traveling to Minneapolis for three days in late April for work, and I'm considering having DH and DD (who will be ~10.5 months) accompany me. DD is still BFing - and plus, I'd just miss her! But that would leave DH with a baby in a hotel room all day, so I'm trying to find out if there are any baby-friendly activities within walking distance of the hotel. I will be at The Depot downtown. I can see from their website that they have a water park and skating rink, but it looks like they are only open weekends (and we'd be there weekdays). It also looks like the hotel is near the river - is there a walking trail? Any suggestions on where he could go would be much appreciated! I was in Minneapolis a few years ago and thought it was lovely, but that was all pre-baby, so I have no idea what options there are.

TIA!

  • Hello  I don't know of anything down there  but there are a lot to not far from there like the MNzoo & there is a great indoor playground in Edina
  • From the Depot its only about 3-4 blocks to the river and yes there are walking paths...that area is actually very beautiful, there's the stone arch bridge that takes you over to St. Anthony main (which I don't know what's over there anymore).  There's the Bell Museum that would be kid friendly with in a few miles (It's on the Uof M campus) and the Minneapolis Institute of Art (maybe not good for a 10 month old but your DH might enjoy it).

  • from downtown your husband and baby girl could take the light rail train to the mall of america-underwater adventure world.   the sky way system is nice to walk and nicollet (sp) mall area is nice for walking/shopping etc.

i don't venture downtown often-if at all so this is just by memory.   you could try to contact the hotel and see what they have for information?

  • I agree with all of the previous posters, the hotel should have alot of information for you! The light rail does run from downtown, minneapolis to the mall of america so they could definitely go there and have some fun!

Depending on what week days you are here, Mall of America has toddler Tuesdays.  Another idea is the Minneapolis public library, which would be a couple blocks from there.  They might have a story time.

  • These are great suggestions!

It hadn't occurred to me to ask the hotel. Duh!

I love the idea of Toddler Tuesday at Mall of America and going to the public library. DH would enjoy taking her to the Bell Museum and Art Museum. He loves art, and she loves people-watching. It's good to know that it's a nice walk along the riverfront, too. I'll look up the indoor playground; that would be perfect, but I'm not sure how far he'll be able to travel.

    Thanks so much!
