I know this has been asked before, but I can't seem to find the post so I'm asking again.
J starts daycare next week and I wanted to get ideas as to what everyone sends to daycare for their LO to eat. Joshua hates sandwiches so that's out of the question.
Any ideas?
Re: Daycare Food
Have you checked out the bento lunches blog? https://lunchinabox.net/bento-store-locator/
I think she has some ideas of what you can prepare your child. GL!
I pack my kids lunch everyday.. And boy it gets old real quick..
Here are some of the things that I pack for them:
Main course:
quesadillas, pinwheel-pb&j, bagel w/pb or cream cheese, hot dogs (cut up), rice & chicken (in a thermos)- I put a bowl in there for them to dump it into. Mac-n-cheese, meatballs, grilled cheese sandwich (for my son-DD doesnt like sandwiches)
Fruit- any kind, they get oranges, pinapple, apples, strawberries, canteloupe, whatever is really in season. The get fruit everyday with lunch
Crunchy snack- pretzels, wheat thins, goldfish, etc..
Sometimes for snack I will also throw in a cheese stick -mine like them cut up and then they stick pretzels sticks on them.. yogurt(i freeze these so they are cold by the time they eat them)
I know im forgetting alot-- I will come back when my brain remembers..
The daycare has a fridge where I could store his food and they will also heat it up so that helps a lot. Those were great ideas you gave me, thanks so much! If you remember more, let me know.
You are so lucky, one of the daycares I looked into also provided lunch which would have been perfect but I liked the teacher at the other school better. They do provide all his snacks, so that'll be good. I took him in to meet the teacher and other students before he officially starts and he went into the classroom and totally forgot about me. That made me feel so much better about leaving him there. He loved it! Hopefully it's the same when he officially starts.
We pay extra to get DS's lunches from the school, but DD is still too young to get the school meals, which don't start until she reaches the toddler room. She just turned a year but eats a lot, so I send in whatever was leftover from dinner. Spaghetti with meat sauce, beans and pasta or rice, quinoa and beef/veggie stew, baked ziti, etc. I also send a yogurt and cheerios for her afternoon snack plus a small serving of oatmeal or quinoa with fruit for her morning snack/second breakfast (she just started to eat a bit of breakfast at home).
Hope he loves it again when he officially starts!!
