I know some women take these while TTC, but do they actually help or is it a myth? Is this something that is taken just for the vitamin factor or does it help to conceive?
I have never heard that it helps your chances. Just that it is good to take them when TTC because the folic acid prevents certain birth defects that can occur early on, often times before you even know youre PG.
They don't help you to conceive but they help to ensure a healthy baby and to prevent birth defects. You shoud take them while you are TTC. They do the most good before many women know they are PG because some defects develop in the first 28 days after conception.

I wasn't aware that they aid in conception but taking them before getting pregnant does reduce the risk of the baby have neural tube defects. That is why its so important
Thank you girls! Do I have to get them from the Dr. or can I go to a local drug store?
Im full of questions tonight! Sorry!
I buy mine at walgreens in the vitamin aisle for the time being. If my OB recommends a prescription after I am PG I will switch. Many women I know took OTC PNVs all through pregnancy.

I have an RX just because my co-pay made them really cheap, but OTC works fine. You may have to test a couple of brands to find one that is right for you. Some can cause some bowel issues or nausea.

Again, thank you all so much! I have been taking "One a Day" vitamins that promote heart health, fertility, and... something else, I forget. But I have been hearing about people taking PNVs so I was wondering.
I'm taking a brand I got at Target plus a Folic Acid tablet as a supplement. My OB/Gyn suggested I take at least 1mg of Folic Acid and OTC PNVs only have 800mcg.

I am taking Rainbow Light Just Once Prenatal One. Got it at Whole Foods. They give you a vitamin card so after enough purchases I think you get a free bottle.

PNVs don't actually help in conceiving.
They provide your body with the necessary nutrients to produce a healthy baby.

cbarnes would have a thing or two to say about this subject...
But, no, it doesn't help conceive, just helps for when you do get pregnant.
