Feeding - Did it just 'click'??

Oral feeds are our last hurdle before we can finally get Hunter home.  We're making 4-5 attempts per day (on a Q3 schedule).. 2-3 of which are successful.  They're typically BFs, which are great when Hunter is awake enough to be 'into' it.. but he does get 1 or 2 bottles when I'm not there.  The bottles have been going REALLY badly lately.

So with oral feeds, did your LO just suddenly 'get it?'  Did they suddenly start waking up on schedule?  Did they suddenly organize their bottle feeding coordination?

I just wanna go home!!!

Yes they did! Mine were sleep just like Hunter and in fact Hunter is progressing and getting it way faster than mine did. Then one day it just clicked and they started waking every 3 hours and asking for food and shortly after we were home. Good luck!

Yes! It seems like it will never happen and then, seemingly out of nowhere, it all comes together

it really does. it's torture waiting, but it will click. and then it's a quick ride to leaving!

It clicked for DS once he was ready and we found the right bottle! Bring in different ones to see what he likes - he wasn't doing well with the NICU bottles/nipples, so we brought Avent, Nuk, and Evenflo with us one day. Avent was a bust, but he totally took to the Nuk. 4 days later, he was discharged. Try different bottles!

Yes, yes, yes!  The nurses said it would 'click' overnight, and it did.  We had our little guy home soon after.  It's great that your baby is able to breastfeed, too.  We had to wait on that and struggled with/without nipple shield.  Now he's directly BF but it took a while.  Hang in there, your patience will pay off!
