Adoption party gift

Friend of mine has been invited to an adoption party for a 3 year old girl.  Any ideas for an appropriate gift?

    Probably whatever you'd get for a 3 year old girl's birthday party, right?  clothes, barbies, coloring books, etc.

    I love to give books as gifts.  Maybe a set of Little Golden Books or Dr. Seuss books.  She might also check to see if the new parents have a registry.

    There are a few factors to consider.  We adopted my sis when she was 4, but she had been living with us since she was 1 through foster care.  So, we had all the basics and toys and such would have been best.  In that case,  it would just be something to mark the occasion and make the child feel special.

    However, if this adoption means bringing a 3yr old into the home from somewhere else, they could need basics.  Stuff for the child's room, clothes, books or toys would be appreciated!
