If you've dropped your phone in the toilet...

when did it recover? lol

I dropped my cell in the toilet last night. Its much better today than it was yesterday but its still wonky. Dialing people, page lighting up randomly, etc.

I assume Insurance doesn't cover this, right?

Re: If you've dropped your phone in the toilet...

  • My FIL did this recently. The phone store told him to place the battery in a bag of rice for a day or two and draw the moisture out.

    Good Luck!

  • Yeah, take the battery out and put both the phone in a bag of rice. But when DS put my phone in the dog's water bowl and it sat there for an hour before I noticed, the insurance did cover it (I have verizon).

  • The rice really does work.  My dh got his phone wet skiing and he did that.

I have a phone case by otter box.  It's water proof in case something like that happens.  I'm a little clumsy...dh bought it for me.

  • i have verizon too, maybe I should call them.

  • Iphone?   a friend accidently dropped his in a pond... had to have the battery replaced.. $175 was the quote from apple. someone recommended a local guy who could fix it for cheaper... he just bought a new phone.

  • nope its a samsung rogue

  • if you can remove the battery, I know a number of people who swear the rice thing works.

  • DO NOT PUT THE BATTERY BACK IN!  You will kill the phone.

I would wait at least 4 or 5 days, put it someplace where it will dry, like on a heat vent.  No, cell insurance does not cover submersion.

  • My toddler threw my phone in the tub, and I immediately retrieved it.  It never came back, sad to say.  Luckily, I was up for an upgrade, so it didn't really cost me anything.
  • Go to the verizon website then - there is a place in your online account to file a claim online. It asks you a series of questions and then tells you if you're eligible for a new phone or not. If you are, they ususally overnight one for you.

Just make sure to leave a note on your front door if you're not home so the UPS/FEd-Ex guy can leave it.

  • We have Verizon and get the insurance.  My DS has replaced at least 8 phones in the last 3 years.  He is hard on cell phones.
  • The rice thing worked for me when mine got wet. That is exactly why I tell people the insurance is a good idea & not a ripoff. I've replaced my phone three times in the past six years.

  • I dropped mine in the cat's water bowl and it never recovered.  Now I have insurance on my new phone!

I have Verizon Wireless and have the Tec Insurance (Total Equipment Coverage).

Total Equipment Coverage offers complete protection for your wireless equipment. It combines the benefits of Asurion?s Wireless Phone Protection with the Verizon Wireless Extended Warranty program. If your device or covered accessories are inoperable for any reason-lost, stolen, accidentally damaged, or malfunctioning-you are covered.  Verizon Wireless customers can only enroll in Total Equipment Coverage within 30 days of new account activation with new equipment or an upgrade with new equipment purchase.

I also found this on the Verizon site:

I got my phone wet, what should I do?

If your phone got wet, remove the battery and let it dry out for a few days; sometimes this works. In the event that this does not work you may have to replace your phone. Unfortunately, phones that are damaged by liquid are not covered by your manufacturers warranty. To discuss options on how to replace your phone you may call us at (800) 922-0204, send us an email, or visit a Verizon Wireless store near you.
  • The Verizon TEC Insurance covers Loss, Theft, Physical Damage, Water Damage
