We have been considering this but i don;t know anything about it these days:) I have not changed cloth diaper in 13 years:) Did you use a service or clean them yourself? Do you think it saved money or about the same?
I was seriously considering it, but we have a well and septic system (shared with our landlady) that can't handle the extra laundry. I know there are MoMs on here who CD though; I believe it can be done!
I plan to CD the twins. Currently, I'm CDing DS and we use the green mountain prefolds with the Blueberry and Thirsties duo covers. At night I use the BumGenius pockets-they work wonders!! I have to figure out what I'll need for the twins infant stash, but that will be in the future soon! I can't wait and yes, I see that it saves money. Oh, and yes, we wash our own.
I cloth diapered my DD until just about a month ago. I had full intentions of doing it with boys too, but I've kind of lost my motivation. I just put them all into disposables, which is easier for me right now, but I might go back to it eventually. It can be very economical, but it can also be expensive depending on which diapers you use. I really like the bum genius organic all in ones and their regular 3.0's. I didn't cd my dd from the beginning though, she was about 6 months when I started, so I don't know how it is for the newborn stage. Good luck!
i plan on cd my two when they're about 8 - 12 weeks. dh and i need some time to get our feet under us with the new parent thing so i don't want to set us up to fail by overloading ourselves straight away. i've done a ton of research on cd and i like the mother ease sandy's. it's a fitted diaper that looks nice a trim, the company's been around for a long time and has a good reputation, great customer service with loyal customers. have you checked out the diaperswappers.com site? you can get more info than you thought possible there.
We CD DD, and will do so for the twins. We use BG 3.0s and FB OS for DD, although we're branching out a bit for the twins. I've heard great things about Kissaluvs, and we'll also use prefolds.
We do laundry ourselves. Right now, it only adds an extra load or two per week.
I wouldn't settle on one type or brand of diaper right out of the starting gate. They fit each baby differently, and you might find that what I like isn't what you like.
Do they save $? No doubt about it, as long as you don't become addicted to buying cute diapers (no, I'm not kidding). www.bananapeelsdiapers.com has a great product learning section with a cost calculator. Let me put it this way - we've already saved $ with DD. We will save thousands, literally, CDing the twins.
we CD the boys. for the nb stage we used BG fitteds and KL0s. I liked the BG better, but they grew out of them before the KL0s. Now we use FB pockets and a mixture of BG OS pockets and OS organic AIO. The OS organic AIO are by far the easiest and work great but they take a long time to dry. The other downside is that they are expensive. I bought seconds and they were still pricey. I haven't calculated anything, but I'm sure we're saving money. We do do the laundry ourselves. Like pp said, don't stock up your whole stash until you know what you like.

www.pinstripesandpolkadots.com is another great website for laundry detergent and diaper cream information.
