Kennedy took her first steps...

And I wasn't there to see it.

I was dropping K off at the sitter's house after lunch and the sitter mentioned that yesterday K was in the kitchen standing up and was trying to get the toy. She said she took three "semi-scoot" steps until she got to the toy!

I'm so excited for her and happy about this milestone. At the same time, it makes me want to cry that I wasn't there when it happened. Even though I've been back to work since K was 13 weeks, we've been very lucky that we've been there in person for all the big milestones. I guess I assumed that I would be there for the first steps too.

I called my DH about it and he told me that it isn't officially her first steps until we are there to witness it. :)

  • That is so exciting!  Maybe you will get to see her first "real" steps...that aren't semi-scoot.  Big Smile

  • Way to go Miss Kennedy!!!  I agree with your DH, I'm sure you'll be there for those first "real" steps!

  • Yay, Kennedy!!!! I understand exactly how you feel. My mom saw Abby roll over first. I was really bummed-especially since that's one of the first milestones. Abby still isn't crawling (scoots but not crawls), but she pulled herself up this weekend for the first time. At least...for the first time for me! ;o) I'm with your dh, it doesn't count until you witness it.
  • Yay Kennedy...I too agree with your DH...it's not her firsts till ya'll see it :)
  • yay Kennedy!  growing up so fast!!

Agreed.  I also know several people who have asked their sitters/DCP not to tell them these things so they don't feel like they've missed out.....  As my sister and I say "working mom guilt, the gift that keeps on giving....."

  • Yay Miss K!! I agree with your DH and everyone else. It's not a first until YOU see it!

  • I know how you feel. C took steps at school right before Christmas. I was pretty tore up about it. I had witnessed all his other milestones.

When I saw him take steps for the first time, I still cried. It was amazing. It meant so much more because he took steps toward me!

I agree with your DH, it doesn't count until you see it first!
