I know Zoe is not even 2 yet, but she loves to poop and pee on the potty. She even asked me this morning for Minnie underwear. We have talked about it, but she hasn't worn them yet. She has a bit of a cold so I'm thinking we'll be in the house all afternoon, so maybe after her nap i'll try potty training lockdown and see how it goes. How often should i try her on the potty? Is it every hour or more like every 1/2 hour? or just when I ask if she needs to go and she says yes?
Re: potty training straight to underwear question
Limit her liquids. Put her on it every 30 minutes - to start. Every 45 minutes or so. Until she get the idea. You can also try putting on the timer and telling her that when she hears it...it is time to try and go potty.
Good luck! After yesterday Sophie says to me, "Mommy, pee goes in the toilet...not on Tinkerbell."
I did the timer thing every 30 minutes. Our bathrooms are at the other end of where the playroom is (where we spend our days) so I had a small potty in there too just in case he needed to pee quicker than he could run!
Sebastian was potty trained (through the night too) at 2! I am determined to have Nate potty trained by next week!
GOOD LUCK!
I just wanted to butt in and say that I'm so jealous that you're so close to potty training Zoe!!
Alexis is definitely not there yet!
good luck
don't be jealous! I am pefectly fine with her still in diapers... i'm dreading public restrooms and all that grossness!!!
Everything I read said to put them on the potty every 20 min the first day or two, then start stretching out the intervals by 10-15 minutes.
However, from friends with potty trained kids, they all say when the child is really ready, you don't have to do that. You are just supposed to ask them every 20-30 min and they will let you know when they have to go.
Nicky will go when I physically put him on the potty, but he doesn't tell me on his own that he has to go. We tried going diaper-free for 3 days a few weeks ago and he p*ssed and s*it himself repeatedly. He will still go when I put him on the potty, but he is clearly not ready for big boy underwear only.
GOOD LUCK!! Even though they say not to compare boys and girls, I will be sooooo jealous if you are done with diapers before two years old!
::butting in:: I definitely have no experience in this matter. But poor Nicky!! And of course you too. It must be soooo frustrating for the both of you.
I have to give it to all the mommies who are in potty training mode. I think that is really difficult b/c I think the kids do get sad when they don't do it RIGHT.
GL ladies!!!
the first day, we put the timer on 20 mins- and took them no matter what. If they peed they got a sticker, poop got 2 and if they tried and didn't go they got a "good try!!!". I never asked if they had to go- we just went, no questions.
We had potties all over our house, lol.
Next day we went to 30 mins, and we still tried every time, no asking. same rewards they love stickers.
Next day we went to 45 mins, and still asked inbetween. I think the problem with asking is that at first, they may not know the sensations and how it feels if they have to pee. I think it takes a little to learn them, so you may not get a "yes" if you ask them, even if they have to go.... My girls weren't ready until they were over 3...but once we did it, they caught on really quickly since they were so old. Knock on wood, we haven't had an accident in a LONG time.
I did get them super special panties and definitely used the "you don't want to pee pee on Sleeping Beauty" comments...they seriously work!!!
