Cat, cat food, kitty litter?

My cat is fine with the baby and I was fine during pregnancy.  She is an indoor cat who eats dry food which is aok.  Now, there is baby - has anyone seen a baby eat kitty food or water?  Will he scoop things out of her sandbox?   Suggestions if these things occur?

Re: Cat, cat food, kitty litter?

  • I don't have a cat,but I do have a dog and this is a huge problem. He loved going over to Buddy's bowl and eating his dry dog food.. he also would go over to his water bowl and splash around and laugh in it.

I had to move Buddy's dishes to the downstairs bathroom and shut the door when Jake has access to it. Then I open it whenever Buddy needs to eat or drink and put Jake in "baby jail"

  • Not yet, but I figure I'll have similar issues when the baby comes since we have 2 dogs.  I'm also a little concerned about the toy situation since my dogs LOVE their toys and I don't think they'll be able to tell the difference b/w their toys and baby toys.

  • We have 2 cats and we keep the litter box in a closet so that ds doesnt go to it. I dont even think he knows it exists. He has never eaten cat food (or dog food - we have a maltese). We keep the food out of his way and as soon as the cats are done eating, we pick up the bowls. He has tried to pick up the water bowl or stick his foot in it but we just move him away. The dog food we keep out all day and he has lost interest in it, after multiple attempts of trying to pick up the bowl and us taking him away from it.  So to answer your question, your lo will probably try to get to it but its no big deal as long as you are there and remove him from the temptation.
  • Sophie went through a phase where she was interested in the cat food and water but is now so used to it that she rarely pays any attention to it. We have the litter situated out of the way in an area Sophie does not play in. This was a worry of mine, too. I am sure we would have had a problem with it had the litter been in a high traffic area.

My sister's dog is CRAZY about baby toys. She has even been seen with a pacifier in her mouth - the right way, too, which is too funny.

My cats never cared much for Sophie's toys....but steal socks. We have found dozens of mismatched pairs of baby/toddler socks under my bed.

OMG!  The socks!  I hardly ever wear socks, but on really cold days I do.  One of my dogs can't stand to see them on me and takes them off of my feet and then attacks them, lol.  He doesn't do it to DH, though, so maybe he won't be interested in baby socks.
