Sleep sacks

DS has begun rolling over to sleep on his tummy at night so we are stopping the swaddling.  Do any of you use sleep sacks?  Like them?  It's cold here, so I can't imagine not providing some sort of other means for warmth but I know I can't use a blanket.  Also, when your LO uses sleep sacks, does he/she wear anything else other than a diaper?  There are some that are sleeveless and some that have sleeves, so I wasn't sure what clothing to put him in underneath the sack.  Thank you.

Re: Sleep sacks

  • We use a sleeveless sleep sack (it's a thicker one) with cotton jammies under.  Love it!

I put DS in a cotton onesie and sleepsack with the sleeves.  They are VERY warm!

  • I just switched from the fleece sleeveless sleep sack to the cotton version. We also out him in footed pajamas.  Personally, I think the sleeved sacks make DS too warm.  But he's a warm baby.

I think it really depends on how warm you keep LO's room.

I rarely change DS during the night anymore, but in the morning it is nice to have him in pajamas and not have to dress him right away.

  • We have him in a short sleeved onesie and long sleeve pj's. And a sleeveless sleep sac. I might start doing light pants, short sleeve onsie, socks and long sleeve sleeper.

Everynight it's such a process to figure out how to dress him for sleep. I always am worried he is too hot or too cold and I end up turning the heat up and down like ten times.

  • We use the fleece sleepsacks and he wears a nightgown underneath. His toes are warm but not sweaty when I get him in the morning and his hands are still chilly so I figure it's the right combo. We were using sleeveless ones but I felt like he was too cold when I fed him mid-night. We loosley tuck a muslin blanket over him because he likes to hold it in his hands while going to sleep. I imagine in the summer he will move to a sleeveless sleepsack and onesie but that's a while away still. Hth.

  • Thanks for all the info, ladies.  Going out today to buy a sleepsack (or two or four!).
