s/o: bed size?

We still have a full/double size (I know!) bed.  And yes, in the mornings when everyone piles in, DH and I only last about 5 minutes.  We'll be giving the mattress to DS and convert his toddler (convertible crib) to the full size bed as soon as we find a new mattress/box.  We have the room for a king size, and that's what I want, but is it necessary?  I just don't think a queen is much bigger....and I want some space.  But, I also don't want kids there more than they are. ;)

What do you have?  Like it/hate it?

also, once we find what we want, is there some online discounters that are reputable?

  • We have a queen and I think it works really well.  We sleep on a double when we go to my parents and its a lot smaller and end up way to close (I am a don't touch me while I sleep person) yet when have stayed in king beds at hotels, I feel like he is so far away.

  • We have a queen and I want to move up to a king.  It's fine for now but when it comes time to get a new mattress and box spring we'll move up.  We normally have a king size when we stay in a hotel or something and having the extra room is just so nice.

  • I have a king and kind of think it is too big, it just seems giant and I like to cuddle and I feel like DH and I are on different islands or something...BUT ds did come into our bed last night at 2 am and it didn't seem giant then..
  • OMG, you have 4 kids and a full size bed?  Are you NUTS?!  Stick out tongue  We have a pillow top king size bed, and to this day I say it is the best purchase we have ever made.  Fits 2 adults, 3 small children, and a bed-hogging dog just fine on lazy Saturday mornings!
  • We have a king and I love it. We used to have a queen and I thought it was fine, but now that we have a king I realize how much I woke up. Every time DH rolled over, I felt it and it woke me up. Now, I can't even tell he's there and I sleep so much better.

KING KING KING KING!  Can you guess where I fall?

We bought a queen bed originally because in our first townhouse a king would have dominated the room.  Then we brought really nice bedroom furniture and I wish i had been smarter then.  I have been dying for a king but the furniture was holding us back.  We finally got the king this fall (we created brackets so we could continue to use the furniture).  It is wonderful!

There is alot of space between us when we sleep but sleeping is for sleeping.  We have no issue getting close when we are awake!

  • We have a king and I love it.  But, I think DH and I would be a little closer if we had a smaller bed.  ;-)  Like you said, though, a queen isn't that much bigger than a full.

  • We have a queen, and it's perfect for the two of us. DD does sleep with us now usually, and takes up too much room. I'm not sure a king would help though. She has to be touching me when she sleeps, so I think there would just be a bigger gap between her and DH.

We have a queen and we bedshare!  DH always complains he's being replaced by DS!  Which he is in a way!  But it will force me to get LO in his crib when we have a second.  I'd love a king size bed, but our bedframe was so freakin expensive, there's no way we're ever going to get rid of it!

  • We have a queen and I am happy with it.  I like being close to DH when I sleep.  We just bought a pretty expensive bed, so a queen it will be for a long time.

DH would prefer to have a California King.  He's very tall, so his feet hang off the end of the bed.  (Even in a King).  Sheets, comforters, beds, etc. for a California King are waaaay out of my price range and hard to find.
