Postpartum Depression

How long does it take for Wellbutrin to work?

I guess this is more about depression during pregnancy than PPD, as I am 30 weeks right now.  If you took Wellbutrin and it worked for you, how long did it take to start working? I started Wellbutrin a week and 2 days ago and I haven't really felt any change yet  Of course the ONE question I forgot to ask my dr about it was how long it should take to kick in.  I know some anti-depressants, like SSRIs can take up to a month to start working.  But from what I've heard about Wellbutrin is that it starts to work right away.

I'm really really hoping that Wellbutrin works for me.  SSRIs turn me into a zombie, so if the Wellbutrin doesn't work I'm not sure what my options are.  Especially during pregnancy.

Thanks!

  • I started taking it about 5 weeks ago, and I am just now realizing that I feel better.  Also, I was really irritable the first week I started.  At first I thought it was making everything worse, but now I do feel much better.  I hope it works well for you, I haven't experienced any side effects at all.

  • My doctor told me it could take anywhere from 2 weeks - a month for it to start working.
  • I started taking Wellbutrin 3 months after my son was born for PPD.  I really didn't start feeling better or noticing a difference for about a month.  Probably by the time you give birth you should be feeling better..which will help with all the hormonal changes right after.  I was also told that it should start working right away, but like I said, I really didn't see any changes for about a month.
  • Most SSRI's take about 14-28 days to appropriately titrate into your body.
