So I don't see my dietician until Wednesday and haven't started monitoring yet either. I know that some of my questions will be answered then, but in the meantime, I miss fruits and vegetables!
I am working on the veggies (mostly just food aversion issues with that), but struggle with fruit because of the sugar and my reaction to it.
So here's my question-
Are there better and worse fruits to eat? Name the best 3 fruits to eat for bs and gd!
Re: GD and fruit?
I know your pain about the fruit - I ate all kinds before being diagnosed with GD. For me I have found that a small apple (size of fist) or 1/2 a large with some peanut butter is a good snack. The no sugar fruit cups don't effect me badly at all and I actually like them better because the syrup in regular ones is too sweet. If you like bananas, eat only half. Clemintines are good as well. It really depends on what you can tollerate.
From reading some of the other posts I have found that I can tollerate a lot more than others. My nutritionist actually told me today to eat more fruit, since some of my lunch carb numbers were low. Basically the key to any of it is moderation. Hope this helps! Good Luck.
I eat green apples and peanut butter, bananas, 1/2 an orange, Today at lunch I had a fruit salad( melon, strawberries, pineapple) I was so excited my numbers were low. I had maybe 8 pieces of the fruit in the salad.
Once you start testing you will know what will friut will make your sugar rise.
I've had oranges, apples, bananas, and grapes without any issues. I have an orange with lunch almost every day and my numbers have never been too high.
Thanks Ladies! I had a feeling it was going to be somewhat about playing and testing to see what works for me, but that link is really helpful too! I was totally thinking a kiwi would be good but it looks like it's high on the sugar scale.
That scale is good - I haven't seen it yet. I find it very interesting though cause grapes and pears (both rated pretty high) don't effect my numbers very much... but bananas definitely do! haha - it's all about trial and error. You'll get the hang of it all - good luck!!!
