Eggplant Parmigiana to induce labor?

My husband took me out to dinner last night and we ate at this Italian restaurant called Provino's and I ate the Eggplant Parmigiana. I have been reading about how this dish supposedly will induce labor in less than 48 hrs. I have 5 more days till my due date and I was getting anxious, so I tried it.

Sadly I am still pregnant and hoping that I will go into labor sometime today(:

You can actually look up this recipe online and I heard that it's not so much the eggplant that brings on labor but the mixture of oregano and basil. Who knew? I just hope this works for me!

Re: Eggplant Parmigiana to induce labor?

  • The restaurant that has kind of made this famous is right near me.  It's called Scalini's.  When I went to my childbirth prep class the nurse was joking about it and said "Everyone thinks it's magic but, the truth is, if you eat a lot of eggplant you get diarrhea which can bring on labor!"  Haha.  I'm game to try it if it looks like I'm in for the long haul, though.

  • I love eggplant and can eat it all the time.  Especially eggplant parmigiana.

I have to remember this one when I am closer. :)

  • Provino's and Scalini's are owned by the same people and I am pretty sure the eggplant parm dishes are the same recipe...I have many friends who have tried this and out of them I would estimate that about 60-70% of them said they went into labor with 48 hrs of eating it. But most of them were very close to or past their due dates so the chances that they would have gone into labor were probably high anyway.

But they all say it is very yummy, so at least you have a good meal! :)

  • haha... i'm in Rome, GA - and I just mentioned to hubby for us to go out to provino's here and i want to get the eggplant parmigiana - i think we are going to go! it can't hurt to try - can it??
