item 1) Last night was scary. I got up around 3 a.m. and went to pee...like normal. In the dark I could tell the tissue did not look normal. (Having been thru awful miscarriages, I still, to this day...check the toilet everytime I go.) I turned the light on, and there was fresh blood, and a lot of it in the toilet. It looked like I started my period. I was so very scared. The OB on call said, "did you have sex? (yes)..."then just go lie down". I have never had bleeding, ever after intercourse, and never in my pregnancy. She made me feel like an idiot for calling. I miss my RE's office. They are wonderful there, and very helpful/answer any questions. I called back at 7, and even though the bleeding had slowed to spotting, I wanted to be checked.
Sono showed the babies were fine (Thank Heavens), but there was an area on my uterus that she thought may be the cause of the bleeding?? To be safe, she said no sex for at least a week. Is this bleeding really that common?
item 2) Tomorrow I am scheduled for a possible CVS. very nervous, but if they can't do it...my cervix is not always cooperative...or for any other reason my amnio will be in week 16. we have decided to do testing, just uncertain which one. If you had CVS, did all go well? Thank you all.
Re: bleeding/possible CVS (2 issues)
I bled like crazy with my son-- I had a subchorionic hematoma that showed up at 12 weeks. I basically hemorraged and then had like a full period for another 5 weeks. It was awful. I had been scheduled to have an amnio with him- we pushed it off til after the bleeding stopped.
I had an amnio with my twins last week- it went fine. I thought it hurt more than it did with my singelton. I've never had a CVS- my MFM isn't a big fan of them for twins and I had a good nuchal translucency test so I didn't have any red flags that would have made me want to know for sure earlier.
Thank you for sharing. I get that feeling about CVS from my OB. I think because less physicians perform it. I just felt like an idiot, (when I called)but I was scared as h*ll to see all that fresh blood.
I had CVS last Tuesday on both of the twins. They had a hard time getting the babies to cooperate and had told the nurses it was a no go when all of a sudden (after over an hour) things weirdly lined up and they were able to get baby A transvaginally and baby B abdominally.
I'm not going to lie to you, it was rough for me. It didn't feel good but, it was over very, very quickly.
I had CVS with Emerson and it was an absolute breeze! It was just like a pap and and didn't feel anything! They did that one transvaginally.
The cool thing is that by Thursday (36 hrs later) I knew my babies were perfectly healthy and I was going to have a boy and a girl.
GL and if you have any more questions, I'd be more than happy to answer for you.
BTW-you can expect spotting from the CVS if they do one or both transvaginally for 48 hours.
I had to fly out of state for a specialist who had lots of experience with twins. When you have a dr that has lots of experience, the chance of a problem is less than 1%.
How scary. I am glad to hear the babies are ok.
We did a CVS. Everything went fine and we had no complications. We thoroughly looked into the person that was performing our CVS to make sure he was very qualified and that his stats were good. It made me feel better knowing all of that information going into it. Both of mine were done through my stomach and not my cervix.
I would definitely tell them what has gone over the last week and see if they still think you should do it.

I went pretty much the exact same situation you are in now at 10.5 weeks. I woke up at 3 a.m. to go pee and saw a lot of fresh blood. Upon calling, my OB told me to go to the ER (if your OB thought that much blood can come from having sex, I would reconsider doctors, seriously). At the ER, they made sure the babies were fine, but they couldn't locate the bleeding. By then, I was no longer bleeding hard, just spotting. The next day, I was seen by my OB and although it wasn't very clear (because the blood was still fresh) where the blood was coming from, she thought it was in the uterus. I was put on pelvic rest (no sex, no orgasms to avoid irritating the uterus) and told that I could continue with my CVS, which was scheduled for 3 days later, but that I had to tell them about the bleed. At the CVS, with better technology, the MFM clearly saw that I had a subchorionic hematoma. Although he could have gone through the cervix, in order to avoid the hematoma, he went abdominally to collect the samples. I didn't have any further "fresh" bleeding since. I spotted brown for weeks though, but that had nothing to do with the CVS and everything to do with the hematoma resolving itself. By 18 weeks, the hematoma was completely undetecable on U/S and I was taken off pelvic rest.
I hope things go well for you! GL!
I second going to someone with a LOT of experience in CVS. The guy I went to had better rates for CVS than the national averages for amnio. Personally, I preferred the CVS because the needle doesn't come into the amniotic sac, while for amnio the needle penetrates the sac and is much closer to the baby. Plus, we were able to get the results while still in the 1st trimester.
Thank you everyone!! I have been thinking about switching OBs for quite a while, and my RE gave me a list of great ppl who work in conjuction w/them in our downtown University.
I like the idea of CVS if there is minimal risk (a skilled doc who performs it a lot). Thank you who shared about CVS. I would def. be willing to go out of state to a qualified doc.
