Yogurt Melt freak out

So a friend at work was telling me about Yogurt melts and how much her DS loves them.  I've seen them mentioned on 6-12 that they melt and there is no choking hazard.  Well, let me just say that waiting for the little sucker to melt while your child gags, then goes silent and turns bright red, is horrifying (with watery eyes and mouth wide open).

I'll be packing those up for awhile.  I don't know how anyone does baby-lead weaning and survives the fear of choking.

  • I never tried those with the boys. I didn't trust the melting ability and I thought they were expensive, so I just gave the boys regular yogurt.

  • I'm always scared she's going to choke, but so far so good. We are going the BLW route, simply because DD refuses purees and regular baby food. I just make sure the food is super super soft and cut them into very small peices.

I've heard the yogurt melts can cause gagging and choking so we haven't tried those yet. Guess we won't be for a while still.

    Glad Lane is okay!

  • Ohh, poor little guy and poor mom!  That must have been scary. :(

  • We haven't tried the yogurt melts, but I agree that choking is scary.  We have at least one red faced, tears streaming gag session every day now that we are being more adventurous with foods.  All I can tell you is that it happens less (was every meal), it doesn't freak him out as much and he's getting better about coughing up stuff that he gags on more quickly.

  • It might help to break them up into much smaller pieces. I didn't give my ds a whole one until just recently.

How Scary!  Norah lovesss these but I break them up for her.  I usually split them into quarters and she does really well.  Maybe try again in a month or so, but break them up.  (I even still break up the puffs too)
