It's definitely not easy I have gotten a lot of Jack's clothes and Old Navy and they have some cute stuff. He wears a lot of polo shirts with long sleeve white onesies underneath. Gap has cute stuff. Gymboree has some cute boy stuff (I like their boy stuff way better than their girl clothes, personally) but you have to be careful there because they do a lot of decorations, as we are all probably aware! But yeah, it's all firetrucks and dogs for boys! Holiday shopping was a nightmare. I couldn't find anything...even Janie and Jack had freaking fire trucks on their holiday sweaters! Oooh, just remembered, H&M! They have adorable boy stuff!
I get plain tees and polos at Children's Place. I've actually had pretty good luck at KMart, believe it or not. I ran into the head of the children's department when I was on vacation, and she said that the people they have designing their "Basic Editions" clothing are all from places like the Gap and Banana Republic. I found a bunch of those turtlenecks on clearance last year for next to nothing, and they have held up REALLY well.
AKA KnittyB*tch DS - December 2006 DD - December 2008
I have a certain style that I like for DS and it doesn't involve sports or puppies.
I've had good luck with gymboree's Winter Snowman, Tiny Turtle, and Snappy Dresser on Ebay for cute but not "babyish" items. Right now I've got a cart full of Plaid Alligator I'm trying to make up my mind about.
75% of his wardrobe is Baby Gap .
I also have great luck on Etsy where I can get exactly what I want custom designed for a reasonable price.
ETA: I love the American Apparel line from Penny's but I haven't gotten anything from there yet.
Thanks girls. EVERYTHING I try and find for him right now seems to be covered in trains, monkeys, bears, cars, trains, etc. I know a lot has to do with the size he is in (still in Newborn) but even still I wish I could find something with just stripes, solids, etc.
I'll have to ask my SIL and one of my friends where they shop. 95% of DS wardrobe is hand-me-downs and I can't think of a single shirt that has any type of character and/or vehicle on it. I am not really into that at all, though I did just buy him a super cute romper for the summer with an elephant on it

For newborns and infant sizes, my favorite was American Apparel basics. They have karate pants that are wide leg cotton pants and little lap t's and onesies in a ton of different colors. I liked that I could get him things in black, bright green, red etc. and not just baby blue. I also love Baby Gap and Mini Boden for him, that is where the majority of his clothes are from. I like that their clothes can still look little kidd-ish without being super cutesy.
ralph lauren was my best friend when E was a baby. And some tommy hilfiger and baby gap. Crew cuts and baby gap as he got older--I have always stuck with jeans, button-ups, and the occasional polo (I don't find they fit him well). This is mainly what he wore as an infant:
Carter's has some cute things like the green one I PIP'ed--I find Carter's to either be really cute or completely plastered with dino's and baseballs. Oh, and Target has some cute stuff.
Re: Mom's of boys....? RE: clothing
Ditto on the plain and stripes.
