Insurance Question

My baby and I are currently covered through my insurance through work. If I quit my job, does this qualify us to enroll on my husbands insurance?  Or do we have to wait until open enrollment.  Obviously, my DH will find out at work on Monday, but wondered if anyone has any experience with this.

  • It depends, but most of the time it would be considered a qualifying event.  It depends on if your state considers voluntary terminations qualifying events.  HTH!

  • Yes he should be able to add you if you quit. You just need to have proof that you no longer have insurance and I think that you have to do it within 30 days of yours being cancelled.  You only have to wait for open enrollment if you go past the 30 days period or if you didn't have previous coverage.  Call his HR dept on Monday to make sure.  My boss recently cancelled mine, so we had to go through the same thing.
