What med for reflux?

I asked my pedi for a prescription for reflux, and he started us on Axid.  That's what my DD was on as an infant, and I don't think it really made much difference, but we were never really sure reflux was her problem (or if she was just kind of a fussy, high-needs baby).  But I remember a friend once told me that pedis always seem to start babies on Axid, but it's rarely strong enough, and then they move on to Zantac or something else.

If your LO is on a med for acid reflux, which one, and has it been effective?  Also, how long did it take for you to notice a difference, and what changes did you see?  Can I expect that DS will spit up less (he spits up a TON -- a lot of volume and frequently), or just that he will be less upset with feedings and spitting up?

DS is on Zantac. He only got put on it yesterday so he's only had 3 doses but I already think it is helping him.  It hasn't made a huge difference in his spit up yet, but we've successfully fed without him arching his back, pulling off and screaming.

DD is on Zantac..  Started it a few weeks ago.. DEFINETELY HELPS!!!  But.... she was never a spitter.....  now since she has been on the medicine she does??!?  wierd.. Called the pedi about it but he said there is no corelation...   But it does take time to kick in too

Seems like most reflux babies around here are on Zantac. This is actually the first post I've seen mentioning Axid.

Like you, I'm not completely convinced that my kid has reflux. I happened to mention to my pedi that he'd been spitting up quite a bit and that he'd been a fussier than usual. She immediately slapped the reflux label on him and wrote an Rx for Zantac. It hasn't made a bit of difference.

ETA: Oh, and Zantac won't change the amount of spit-up. It neutralizes the acid so that baby will be more comfortable/less fussy.
