Babies: 0 - 3 Months

How much awake time can you get out of your 3 mo old?

Seems like I can only get an hour to an hour and a half of wake/play time before she starts to fuss. What about you girls?

  • about the same. Sometimes, he won't sleep at all in between feedings (3 hour cycle) but that's pretty rare.

Normally after 1 1/ 2 hours (including feeding) or so he starts to yawn, rub his eyes, etc and I know he is tired so I put him down for a nap.

  • Mine (2 months) is often awake for a few hours at a time, especially in the evenings.

  • My DD varies from day to day, but her longest awake time is normally from about 4 to 7 PM. However, by about 6:30 she is pretty tired and starting to get fussy. I normally have to rock her to sleep and then she's out for the rest of the night, with me waking her around 10:30 for a diaper change and a bottle.

  • 1-1.5 is what we are up to including diaper change, feeding, and play time unless we go out like today we went to the mall and he only had a little bit of a cat nap while we were out so he was pretty tired when we got home but usually if it's a normal day he can be awake for 1-1.5 hours before needing a nap.  I got the following chart from another bumpie:

Guideline for Awake time for babies
    Newborn 50-60 mins
    1 month 60 mins-hour and 15
    2 months 1 hour and 15 - 20 mins
    3 months 1 hour and 20 - 30 mins
    4 months 1 hour and 45 - 2 hours
    5 months 2 hours - 2.25 hours
    Late 5 months/early 6 months 2.25-2.5 hours
6.5 - 7 months 2.75-3 hours. Some are getting more.
    8 - 10 months 3 - 4 hours. Some are getting more.
11 - 12 months 3.5 -4.5 hours. Some are getting more if moved early to 1 nap

This helped alot because in the beginning we had no idea that after a certain amount of time you need to help LO take a nap!!
  • my LO is sleepy in the morning, so I only get about an hour in the morning. But he usually is awake from 4-7pm on average. Fussy time is from 6:-30-7:30pm.
  • Jenny! I LOVE the pic of your LO in your siggy. I think it is the cutest pic I have seen in a while!
  • DD actually stays up a pretty long time.  In the morning its only an hour but in the evening she is up for 3-4 hrs at a time.

  • Not usually much longer then 1 1/2 hours. The max 2 hours.
  • LO gets cranky at exactly 1hr and 15min after waking up. I rock her, she falls asleep by 1hr and 30min and then we start all over!
