pumping help...

so this may sound reaaaallly dumb...but i havent been pumping at all, and with stressful late night feedings dragging me down, i want to start pumping so I can give one feeding to DH to do. When is the best time to pump and for how long? i feel like right after DS eats, I dont have enough to pump, and I dont want to have nothing left for his next feeding. any advice would be greatly appriciated! thanks ladies!

Re: pumping help...

  • I pump after my first morning feed and I always get teh most then. I also pump after another feed during the day and get much less at this time.  You will ALWAYS have enough milk for your lo so don't worry about that...

FYI eventhough your DH is feeding the baby the bottle you have to be up and pump when he eats so you body doesn't drop the feeding so it really doesn't help with your sleep.

    Good luck!

  • I didnt even think about the fact that I would have to pump at night....THANK YOU!! lol I guess I'll start trying this tomorrow and see how it goes! :)
  • Your little guy is adorable.  I pump as soon as I can in the morning, about an hour after a feeding and can pump a lot.  I have let DH bottle feed and I've skipped pumping to sleep and I didn't loose my milk for that time, if you did it consistently every day you might.  For me I just got really engorged and had to pump after the first feeding awake.

My DH brought up this point (I think he was trying to get out of helping! lol). My point to him was that I can get up and pump in about 10-15 minutes and go right back to sleep. On a good night it takes at least 30 minutes to feed and change DD and that is if she goes right back down. If she is fussy it can take up to an hour.

This helped me make my pumping sessions much faster
