Babies: 0 - 3 Months

What do I need my first few days?

So, we were finishing home renovations and were expecting to be all set with our house after the baby was born.  Unfortunately, bad weather and power loss has set us back several days.  The need for a back-up plan to go to a hotel from the hospital seems greater and greater.  What do we need for our first couple of days from the hospital that I can try to pack now in preparation?  I'll be a first time mom and have no idea.  I am planning on breastfeeding.

Re: What do I need my first few days?

  • diapers, receiving blankets, boppy, a place to sleep (if not with you), bottles (just in case), your pump, wipes, and perhaps a bouncer or something to put the LO in because you don't want to carry him or her all day long.
  • Loading the player...
  • Same as the previous poster, but I would add several nursing tanks, or t-shirts, and burp cloths or towels.  Once my milk finally came in, I was leaking all over everything while we were figuring out feeding, and I don't like sitting around wet in between feedings.
  • All the above and nursing pads.
  • All of the above.. plus some tucks pads and pads for you!!! Tucks pads saved my life the first week home!!!
  • I was planning on nursing as well - but things did not work out and I needed to pump and use my bottles right away.  So I would say even if you plan to BF I would say be prepared with bottles and a sterilizer anyway - and your pump.

  • Im lurking but like these posts so ...

Diapers (more then you think you will need), wipes, recieving blankets, sleepers - dont bother with other clothes at this age, hats for in and out of the car/ warm blankets, bouncy seat for sure, maybe a portable swing? Pump & bottles, baby bath/towel, vaseline, wash cloths.

    ..the kitchen sink? ;)

  • All of the above AND either frozen dinners, or a vast array of take-out menus. You don't want to have to cook! Also, advil or tylenol for the post partum owies you're gonna have.
