My LO STTN, BUT...

... she will only do it if she's sleeping on the couch.  Yes, I know, I shouldn't be letting her sleep on the couch.  But the last week or so I've been working on school work and she's fallen asleep around 8pm, wakes around 10 or 11pm for a feeding and then is alseep until anywhere from 6am until 8am.  I'll stay awake doing my stuff for school so I am next to her the entire time, then I go to bed when DH gets home from work at 4am.  Because he can't go to bed, he stays awake and plays on the computer watching her.

I haven't tried putting her in her crib this past week because I've been focused and taking advantage of her sleepy time.  I'm thinking the reason she likes the couch, is because her head's elevated by a pillow.

So my question is this:  at what age is it okay for LO to sleep on a pillow.  I know she's too little now, and I know it won't be for awhile, but I am curious.  Especially because she sleeps sooooo soundly!

Re: My LO STTN, BUT...

  • I think it's MUCH older. Like around a year.

When we have nights where DD won't sleep flat in her crib, we put her in her carseat in her crib and it's lights out for her for the entire night. Some nights she's fine on her back but other nights, she needs the carseat for the elevation.

  • Last night I folded a towel and placed it under the pad in Ella's cradle. It was the first night we put her in the cradle. She slept in the cradle from 10-3. That was the longest stretch we've ever achieved outside of her swing. I attribute it to her head being slightly elevated.

  • I put a pillow in DD's crib when she was a little over a year.  Before that, I had a wedge (got it at BRU) under her mattress.  That helped a lot.
I don't know what's up with my siggy and I am too lazy to figure it out.
  • Simon definitely prefers to be elevated too. I confess, we let him sleep in his swing at night. We will prob buy a sleep positioner soon though, so mommy can stop feeling so guilty.

We used to use the swing, but found he sleeps better in our bed between us. Last night we tried the sleep positioner again (previously it was scream-inducing) and he slept like a champ!

  • My LO one STTN last night too. My problem is he will only do it if he is on my chest. He doesn't role now and I don't, but it still scares me. I think he prefers to be on his tummy. Plus any feeling of him about to wake I can rub his back and soothe him back.
  • You know, it's not surprising that our LOs like having their head elevated. Would you want to sleep without a pillow? I think they need to invent a pillow that is safe for babies to sleep with.

For the past few nights I've been trying to figure out a way to because it really is about damn time.
