I personally prefer the gaelic spelling (I like traditional things) but I think its a cute name.
You mean Aisling? I have a cousin with that spelling. I do like it but I just don't think I could put my kid through having to spell/pronounce it the rest of her life.
Eh, I have multiple friends who have the traditional spelling and they haven't had a problem.
I just think y's tend to, in this day in age, look trashy. I think Ashlyn is an exception because its mainstream (as opposed to made up names like Brylee) but now a days, random y's tend to look low class.
I am a teacher so I associate all names with students. I have a student named Ashyln who is awesome. She is a straight A student with a great sense of humor and an award winning hula hooper. She wants to be a scientist when she grows up and cure cancer. I think it is a good name.

I'm not a teacher, but I've never understood this. She asked if you liked the name, not the student who has the name. I am friends with a lot of great people with awful names and I still don't like their names. Vice versa with people I dislike who have beautiful names. My mom is a preschool teacher and she hates names because of horrible students. I don't see how a bad student makes a name bad. I honestly don't understand it.

I'm a teacher, and I don't get it either. But, its something that many teachers do.
But then again, people think I'm weird because LO will be sharing a name with one of DH's exes. It was my idea and I love the name....I don't see why we shouldn't use it because someone he dated years ago also had that name.

I'm a teacher and I totally understand associating a name with a student... however I think that it could happen to anybody, not just teachers (obviously not everyone would associate it with a student, but with anybody they know or have met that made a big impression -good or bad- on them). I've read lots of posts on here from people that say they're not crazy about a particular name because of someone they didn't like that had the name, or vice-versa. There are several names I've crossed off my favorites list because of students that I've had, not because I hate the name now, I just have a bad association. I know the association would go away over time if we chose it for our LO, but I still wouldn't pick it.
Lol, you're a better wife than I am... DH loves the name MacKenzie, and I really like it too, but I nixed it cause it's one of his ex'es names.Better not let DH see this post or else he will recruit you to change my mind! :-)
Re: Ashlyn?
I don't like it. It looks too made up to me.
