At Ethans 2 month appointment the ped says it wasn't thrush because it could scape off but the white/yellowy stuff is always there! ?And I can't get it to scape off. ?So, I think the ped. was wrong. ?
I am obviously going to call him on Monday to set up an appointment but I was wondering, what do you do if lo has thrush? ?Whatkinds of meds do they give? ?Do I boil or dish wash all bottles and nipples? ?What about toys (like sophie the giraffe) that he has put in his mouth?
TIA?
Re: anyones lo have thrush?
Anything they put in their mouth needs to be boiled nightly to prevent reinfection through the course of the meds. You should wash blankets and sheets in hot water and keep them clean. Thrush is easily spread and can continue to spread if the infection is still there.
Nystatin is the medicine. Which is a liquid you drop in his mouth 3 times a day. DS hated it, but got through it.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

My LO has it. He had it real bad when he was about 3 weeks old. He's had it over a month now. I've gone through 2 courses of Nystatin antibiotic, 4 times a day, and it just isn't fighting the thrush for him. The Pedi called in one does of Difflucan, but it hasn't been filled yet (out of stock). Anyways, I sterilize everything that touches his mouth (nipples, bottle rings, caps to bottles, binkys) and then I switch binkys often and keep giving him sterile ones and also I wipe his hands during changings with a wipe to try and ward off germs there for when he sucks his hands (i heard sucking hands is the most common way to get it)... sterilize everything that goes in his mouth even toys. I use the microwave sterilizer bags by Munchkin for the bottle parts/nipples/binkys... but you can just use boiling water.
On another note, Mother does know best. My Pedi was OOT and the fill-in said that LO didn't have thrush.. that night I tried my hardest to scrape it off and it wasn't happening so I just knew it was, took him in the NEXT day and MY Pedi said that it was a real bad case of it.
HTH! Good Luck!
