I was just at Target and I heard a lady calling out for her daughter....her name was MAVIS...she was adorable. But Mavis...poor kid!!

My MIL is Avis, a variation. I personally dislike it and Mavis, but it's at least not made up. Just very old fashioned.

I know of a few (older) ladies with this name, so it doesn't seem that odd to me. Tons of other older names are coming back, so I'm not surprised to hear this one again either.

Agreed.  I don't want a name that says "son" in it.  I am not a boy, don't give me a name that means "son of Maude/Adam"!

It isn't horrible. I know it's an older name, and probably just coming back again. To be honest, I like it more than names like Paisley, Kinsley, Kinley, etc.

Honestly, I think it's a lot better than some of the popular names right now.

Totally disagree, I think it's cute and far, far better than Garrison, Jadyn, Savannah, Brooklyn or many other trendy girl names.

I have never, ever heard that pronunciation before! It's typically "May-vis," which I think is far preferable!

It wouldn't be my choice, but at least it's a real name. Beats all the Kaylins, Addisons, Henlys, Jaxons, Braydens, etc out there.

I agree.  I like the old-fashioned names MUCH better than the trendy names.

I really like Greta, but dh doesn't like it at all.
