Trying to Get Pregnant

Tilted Uterus

Last question from me today, I promise  :o)  I just got done with my ultrasound and the tech mentioned that my uterus is tilted.  She said this is common and doesn't cause a problem with fertility...but I'm just curious if any of you have this as well or have a different opinion.  Thanks!

  • I had a very tilted uterus (tiled back and to the side) and we had no problems conceiving.
  • I do, but my RE said it isn't a problem either.

The only issues i had were

    1. when they did the dating u/s it had to be an internal b/c i was so tilted the external didnt work, And it was really uncomfortable b/c they had to tilt the wand to see everything (my dr office also checks the overaies during this u/s)

    2. Part tilted uterus, part where LO was (right by my artery) they had trouble locking on the heart at the 12 wk appt- the dr could get glimses of it but we couldnt hear it until the 16 wk appt.

  • Depending on how your uterus is tilted, you could have either a retroverted or retroflexed uterus. Retroverted is where it tips backwards, retroflexed is where it is tipped backwards and also folded over on itself. For some people, this is a non-issue, but according to my RE, about 1/2 of all women with either of these variations also have endometriosis (which ended up being my case). I had the endo taken care of via a lap last June. I am pursuing Mayan abdominal massage, which may assist with moving the uterus back into "normal" position.

    Started TTC 05.08
Me: Stage II endo, borderline high FSH
    DH: perfect
    1 lap, 5 IUIs = 4 BFNs and 1 c/p
    2 IVFs, 2 FETs = 1 BFN, 1 c/p, 1 ectopic and finally a sticky BFP in May 2011!

  • My dr. also told me I had a tilted uterus, also said to have sex face down (doggie) but to keep my booty up in the air - she wasn't that technical.  Smile It took us close to a year to get pregnant but I believe that was part to not charting so I thought I O later than I really did.  But now we have a beautiful 2 year old and once again, trying.  GL!

The way she explained it, it sounds like mine is retroflexed - tipped back and folded.
