Austin Babies

anyone want to sell me on a membership at the Y?

DH and I are looking into this -  and it looks like a really good deal, especially as DD gets older and into sports like t-ball or soccer or the like.  In the meantime, it's nice to have childcare while I swim or do yoga or work out or something.  Though I have to admit, I'm a little leery of the child care there.

Any negatives are appreciated too.  We're looking at joining the one in RR.

Thanks!

  • i don't know anything about the RR location, but I love the Town Lake location. excellent excellent childcare there, two sisters head it up and they are loving, warm, kind and hire like-minded people, they always know my name and all 3 of my kids' names! and I can run on the hike & bike trail while the kids are in the nursery. I also head over to eastside communities Y in the summer for the outdoor pool/water slides. i've heard great things about the kids programs in general (swim lessons, soccer, etc). I know it's not RR, but hope that helps...?

  • Do it!  We used to belong to the RR location.  Jakob LOVED the child gym and he took swim lessons there.  The sports are good for preschoolers.

  • We are thinking of joining too. williamson county (as others do I'd guess) let you join a home gym and you can go to say the rr (home) then cedar park and taylor ones.

I like that idea b/c the cedar park pool looks like FUN.

We love the swim lessons and go swimming btwn the lessons too.

Since we aren't member i have no idea about the child care though.

  • I like the Y alot for swimming and all of the different classes.  I believe if you sign up for RR you basically sign up for all Williamson County YMCAs so you can also go to Cedar Park (which has an awesome outside pool).  To be honest I'm not so much of a fan of the childcare for the kids 2 and under (which is all that we have used).  Maybe just cause T would always cry when I dropped him off and always seemed playing off by himself when I picked him up. Plus the people watching were always really young. I can't wait for T to get old enough for the big playscape area but I don't remember how old he has to be to get in there. I know he has to be potty trained though.  But we still plan to keep our memberships just for all of the different classes we can get into and it's going to be good "mommy time".
