Something is up with DS

And I'm not quite sure what it is.

Yesterday he only took a 40 minute nap in the afternoon. He usually naps for 2-3 hours. He wouldn't eat dinner and wouldn't drink his milk. He was falling asleep in my arms at 5 but would wake up screaming. DS took a shower with DH at around 5:30, we thought it may calm him down. He was falling asleep on DH in the shower.

We put him down for the night at 6, with Tylenol (an hour earlier than usual). He woke up at 10 screaming. I figured he was hungry so I made him some Gerber ravioli quick and some milk. He ate and drank about half. We put him back down at 10:45 and he slept for the remainder of the night.

All he wants to do today is sleep or lay in his crib. He is playful, but not his normal playful self. Does that make sense? He won't eat any solids and is hardly drinking any milk. I finally got him to eat some natual peanut butter off a spoon.

I brought him to the Pedi last week for a cold. Everything looked good. Now he just has a teeny cough, no fever.

I'm at a loss. Any insight for me?

  • To me, this would be worthy of going to the pedi.

If for any reason, because then you won't have to either wait the whole weekend or end up in the ER on Saturday or Sunday.

Weird sleeping habits, not eating a lot, not drinking very much... all red flags for me.  It could be nothing and it probably is.  But it might be something like an ear infection.  DS didn't always get fevers with his.

  • This sounds like an ear infection to me too, I'd try to take him in. DS was at the pedi two weeks ago and got a clean bill of health. This week he had the exact same syptoms as your LO and was diagnosed with an ear infection, so they can come on quickly. GL - hopefully it's nothing ;)

  • His appointment is at 4. Thanks ladies.

I also just looked in his mouth and it seems his top canines are close to coming through. His bottom gums are extremely swollen where the canines are coming up. They are nowhere near close to coming through though.

  • I was thinking ear infection too. I hope he feels better.
