AW: Emily's 2 month check up! (and thyroid f/u)

Our little chunky monkey is 12lb 9oz (75-90th percentile) and 23 inches (75th)! She's looking excellent all around in development etc.

I talked with the Changinator about the thyroid test and breastfeeding. He basically said because there is little to no risk in introducing formula (remember my family has a hx of gluten allergy) and a wide unknown in breastfeeding after a radioactive thyroid scan, he's most comfortable recommending discontinuing breastfeeding following the test. It's a small risk but it's not one I'm willing to take. I'm feeling better about the whole thing really. I never had my heart set on BFing past a year except maybe to get some sort of mommy badge and impress m_and_m ;) So having a hard stop of 6 months is sort of an easy way out and I'm OK with it now.

I remembered too that she'll still be able to get some frozen milk past 6 months provided I have enough saved up. I had it in my head that she'd just be on formula. We'll see how things go when I go back to work next month.

  • You're awesome mommyness and love for your girls impresses me way more than nursing ever would! Wink In fact, I've been thinking all morning about how awesome you and your girls are.

I'm so glad you've come to a decision that makes you feel good. There's nothing worse than having to be unsettled and unhappy no matter what you do, so this pleases me greatly.

  • That's fantastic!  I'm so glad you came to a decision that you're happy with and that's healthy for both you and Emily.

And congrats on the good check up!

  • It's so nice to have some sort of closure.  We had to do a hard stop as well for certain reasons and the going back and forth on my thoughts on formula drained me every day.  I was so happy the day we made the final decision to stop and introduce formula.  And it's been great ever since!  And Abby is thriving!!

    I love your sig picture!

  • Sounds like goodness all around!  Glad you came to a decision that you feel comfortable with.

    And, goooo Emily!

  • great appointment then!  Glad you have the breastfeeding issue resolved satisfactorily, and 6 months is great!  Now you'll just have to introduce formula to Emily some at some point to make sure she'll take it.

  • Great appointment.  Good job growing strong, Emily!

Congratulations on having made a decision that you are happy with.  Having the 'back and forth' of it all behind you must be such a relief.
