Right rib area is always itchy and numbish?

Specifically, my lower right rib/upper right abdomen is normally very achy and sore - but for the past couple weeks it's been literally itchy and numb at times and feels like it should have a rash although it doesn't. I'm going to ask my doctor about this on Monday, but thought I'd ask you ladies. It's not irritated from my bra or anything. I have no clue why it's so itchy and numb/tingly. Anyone else felt this before? I don't even know if this is pregnancy related or not.

  • Huh!  I just realized a couple of days ago that my right rib area is numb - but no itching.  I have no idea.

  • Yes for a while it was sore to touch and over the last week I keep getting this numb feeling.  I was going to ask my ob about it tomorrow.

  • I have the exact same thing in the same spot.  My ob said that's where my gallbladder has gotten pushed and there's a large packet of nerves there.  If LO kicks it, holy pain batman!  Doc said it's normal and nothing to be done!

Well, I haven't felt any kicks there or anything. Just an annoying itch/numbness (and achyness/soreness on and off throughout the day.) It kind of freaks me out because I've heard that that's where you get symptoms re: liver issues! Do you feel it constantly or does it come and go? The itch/numbness for me is constant.

i'm pre-e.  that area is achy and tingly; dr. said it's my liver. GL!

  • Yup, I had the same problem, but I had it a little earlier than you did (around 20 - 28 weeks). The doctor said it was my skin and muscles stretching. He said some of the muscles are actually separating from each other, so it causes an odd numb sensation, and the skin is just irritated from all that growing. Luckily, mine went away (I'm sure yours will too).

  • I'm itchy and numb right around my belly button.  It happened last time, too.  It went away after I delivered.  For me, it was just skin stretching and, the way I picture it, not enough nerve endings to go around.
