Multiples

For all the lurkers...

Looks like early morning sickness CAN mean multiples. Just found out we are having twins. SOME of the women on this board were rude to me when I asked if you can have early m/s with multiples ahem (Mrs Lee) and I'm sure you will delete this post. I also read in several books and websites that you can have exaggerated symptoms with twins (or not) So to all the women who are wondering if something doesn't seem "normal" ya, you could be having more than one!

Re: For all the lurkers...

  • that is weird that they said that because you are correct. that is what happened with me. i have read it several places among other symptoms that can indicate a multiple pregnancy. reason being that is a symptom is because of the higher level of hormones in your body from 2 babies. that is what my doctor told me. obviously, you can have early morning sickness with only one baby, too.

  • people with singletons have severe early m/s too, and people with, say, triplets, might not have any at all.

if you weren't having twins, would you have come back to tell us?

  • You can have severe morning sickness with one, two or three babies.  I'm pretty sure that you got the standard answer everyone gets when they ask.  The only way to be sure is to get that first u/s.

    Congrats....

  • Wow, you really told us.
  • Not to blow a hole in your theory but I had not one day of morning sickness with my twin pg.  And this time around, I have had nothing but morning sickness.  Everyone's bodies are different.  And I know plenty of people who have had singletons and been very sick (like on medication sick) through their second trimester.

  • I was pregnant with triplets and not sick at all. hmmm.....

    I guess I did, sorry.

Not trying to be rude, but after you've been on this board for a while, you'll notice that people want everything to mean you're having twins.

    Congrats, btw!

  • Hm.  I, personally, had the same symptoms with my singleotn pg as I did with my triplet pg.  Just dumb luck, I suppose.  Just like in your case.  Confused
  • You all should know that when I asked no one could politely just explain that to me. You're not understanding, I guess, that I wouldn't be posting this if I felt I wasn't attacked for asking a simple question. I know that some of you did not have a day of m/s all I asked was if some of you did in fact experience early m/s and it was like YOU AREN'T HAVING TWINS!!!  Not a good experience on this board, so yes I just wanted to rub it in is that a crime? LOL! Stick out tongue
  • Okay, you NEVER would have come back here if you weren't having twins.

This board could have been a place of helpfulness to you but I think you have pretty much promised yourself that the senior ladies on this board are done with you.

Morning sickness that comes early CAN mean twins but more often than not it doesn't.  I found out VERY early that I was PG and at 6 weeks that it was twins.  I wasn't sick a stitch.  Other then my OTC stick glaring positive way faster than it should have had no outwardly symptoms that it was twins.

I am sorry that your feelings were hurt by mrslee but stick around a bit and see how many "How do I concieve twins", "my left boob hurts, does that mean I am having twins" and my favorite "Oh no!  My DH eats a ton of sweet potatoes and has twins in his family, am I going to have twins?" posts you can stand.

  • Well, my singleton pregnancy was MUCH worse than my twin pregnancy.  I stayed sick for the first 6 months with my singleton, in and out of the hospital for dehydration.  But with my twin pregnancy, I was NEVER sick.  So that is NOT always the case.
  • I missed the initial discussion on this, but I have to say that this is really snotty.  A lot of people come on here asking if they are having twins because they have some symptom early.  Based on that theory, does that mean those that have no symptoms are not having twins?  Other than a positive test and u/s pictures, I had no feelings I was pregnant until well into the 2nd trimester.

I don't think coming back here with a post like this is any way to win friends or prove a point.  Congratulations on the twins.  They truly are a blessing.

  • Not a crime, but it is pretty childish.
  • Okay well not everyone is happy about having twins. Good luck to all of you and thank you to all with kind words.
  • Severe and early morning sickness can mean anything -- a singleton, twins, triplets, phantom symptoms with no pregnancy at all.  I didn't have a single day of morning sickness.  So I think the responses you got originally were very fair -- early and severe morning sickness does not equal multiples.

Coming here with a post that announces your multiple pregnancy AND points fingers to say "I was right, you were wrong" is not the way you want to introduce yourself to the ladies here....is it?  The ladies here are very helpful and nice.  They tell it like it is, not like you want to hear it.

    Congratulations on your pregnancy.

I don't think it's very funny to come and attack an entire board because a few hurt your feelings.  Not cool.

What point would that be? MS doesn't mean anything. And while I had HEG (google it) and had twins, one thing didn't really have anything to do with the other. There are just as many women here who had no morning sickness. There are tons of women all over the other boards who had one baby and thought they were going to puke up a lung. The only way to be sure is via US, just like you found out. Didn't you post on another board that you were really sick with your singletons?

Ha! Ain't that the truth! It's hard to find one mom on here that wasn't scared sh!tless and terrified and stressed when she found out she was having twins.

And you come to this conclusion how?  Do you feel sorry for our husbands too?  Telling you you are acting like an ass does not equal not being happy about twins.  I'm pleased as punch with my little whippersnappers, thank you very much.

Maybe she peed on two sticks though.

  • Really?  I had more m/s with my youngest, a singleton.  I had hyperamisis with my twins and my youngest.  I puked around 30-40 times a day with my youngest and lost 27 pounds with him.  I "only" lost 20 pounds with my twins.  I should have had a litter with all that I puked with my youngest if we use your theory.  And, my sister-in-law, who has idenitcal twins had no m/s at all.  What's your take on her?
  • And funny that just a month ago you posted on another board (August 2010)that you were concerned that you didn't have ENOUGH sickness like you did with your other pregnancies.  I'm not normally one to stir the pot, but seriously.

I hope you have a safe, uneventful pregnancy.

  • imagecoloradolivin:

What I mean is, for example with my other pregnancies I was sick ALL day starting at 6 weeks. This one, so far, only in the morning and I do get waves of nausea here or there throughout the day. I was expecting that I would be terribly sick again with this pregnancy. Hope this lasts cuz this I can handle.

I am confused.  You posted this in January.  How much earlier did you get m/s this time?  You were 6 weeks with your other pregnancies.  And this pregnancy you were not getting as much m/s.  When did it change?

  • And in summary... bye bye.

    Exactly.

If I'm remembering your thread right, I did confirm that you can have exaggerated symptoms if you're having multiples but the correct, BALANCED answer is that you really can't know for sure until you have a u/s. Many women think they're having multiples and really are not; many other women have no clue they're having multiples and find out they are. You can guess, but not know for sure. And I believe your post is a bit hypocritical if you think *we* were rude.

  • How do you know that your "early" m/s is not a result of this being your second pregnancy? It could be that the fact that you're having twins is just a coincidence. Ever think of that?

Your post continues to prove the opposite of your point: m/s could mean anything from a singleton to twins to a crazy lady who thinks she's having a kangaroo. Your m/s could just have easily meant that you were having one child wreaking havoc on your system.

As it turns out, the ladies on this board were right, you needed an u/s to find out. Way to prove their original point (oh, and to endear yourself to the board).

  • early M/s can mean ANYTHING.  Some women have one baby and puke all day long every day of their pg -- -get hospitalized b/c of it.... some women have twins (or more) and hardly have any m/s (like me... i threw up 3x's total when pg with twins, once b/c of a stomach virus and twice from brushing my teeth... hardly ever felt sick at all).

if anyone was rude to you its bc we get sick of random people coming here asking if they are having twins b/c of XYZ --- when the only way to know is an US.

if you are truly having twins (we get a lot of fakers here, too)... you'll quickly learn how annoying it is when people post that type of question a few times a week.

  • imagecoloradolivin:

is it a crime? nope.... but if you want the MoMs to support you- "rubbing it in" and acting like a b!tch isn't the way to start things off... a simple "wow- i really am pg with twins" would have done the job and we would have all congratulated you - instead you have annoyed everyone.... and this is a NICE board - so you have managed to really do a great job at pissing. people off.

  • Um, congrats but please don't post here anymore. We have a really great board, and we don't need this kind of drama.
