Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Worst mother EVER!

Just got my baby girl's ears pierced on Saturday, soooo cute!  But yesterday just minutes before DH got home from work, DD and I were on the couch in the TV room, I was wearing a sweater with a zipper, I bent forward to pick something off the floor and DD came towards me at the same time, her earring caught the zipper and ripped right out of her ear...FRICK!  Praise the sweet Lord it did not actually damage or rip the ear but of course she was screaming her head off which got me freaked out.  I knew I had to get the earring right back in but for the life of me could not especially with DH not there..I tried a couple of times, didn't work, lost it, DH finally got home, we brought her upstairs to lay her on the change table, I tried a few more times to get the earring back in, at this point I'm losing it and DD is hyperventilating 'cause she's crying so hard...IT WAS JUST AWFUL!!   DH decided that it was not worth it, took us about 10 minutes to calm her down..but all was okay.  I called the place that did the piercing and they said it was no biggy, babies heal super quick and to bring her in in a couple of days and they would simple re-peirce...I wish I would have just done that to begin with as DD was more upset about me freaking out than the earring being ripped out of her ear...I felt like the worst mother EVER!  I think had it been someone else's kid I would have been calm but I am a wreck when it comes to my own....

  • You're not a bad mom!  That was just a bad situation!!!  :::hugs:::

  • So what did you decide? To re-pierce or to let it grow in? Scary either way, and I'm really glad that she's okay now.
  • if she had pulled it out on her own I would probaby decide not to re-pierce but this was more my fault than hers, so I will bring her back in to have the ear pierced on Saturday.  It has only been a little more than 24 hours and it isn't swollen or anything, I've been cleaning it and it doesn't seem to bother her at all..thank god.
  • This just reinforces my belief that?piercing?babies' ears is silly.

  • Yes, I guess it would if you have a boy.....

I have to agree. I couldn't do that to my baby. When I have a daughter she can get them pierced when she wants to.

  • Honestly, I would take them both out and do it in a few years.  This could happen again, and she could rip her ear next time.  Just not worth it.

I would be scared to re-pierce  so soon too.  Could scar up and cause long term problems.

Ok, not really helpful, guys. She feels bad...and this? Not so much with the supportive. Just sayin.

  • I mean I do feel bad for her, I just feel worse for her daughter.

I do, too, but it's not like she did anything deliberatly. And it's not like ear piercing is a form of abuse. It was an accident. And I think it's kind of mean to say "Oh, well, you accidentally hurt your child. Too bad it's your fault."

It's just part of the risk she decided to take when she?pierced?her ears. ?I don't think she's abusing her child, but I certainly don't feel bad for her.?

Sorry, Jackswife, you know I love you, we just don't agree on this one. It's EARPIERCING. Ok, so you don't agree with it, but it's hardly something to be all smug about..."Oh, you pierced your child's ears...well, you get what you get...." IDK. Just seems cold.

Now, let's find a new topic to get our knickers in a twist over. I have a boy so the whole ear piercing thing is moot for me. Let's talk CIO...Devil

I just think it's a tough topic. ?You can't come on here and expect to get a lot of sympathy for something like this b/c people have strong feelings about it. ?It sucks when your child is hurt whether it is from ear peircing, shots or a bump on their heard. ?I agree with that. ?But, I just think that putting earrings in a babies ears is asking for problems. ?WHY do it? ?Cause they look "cute". ?Piercing your kids ears that young benefits NO ONE but yourself...and I think it's dumb. ?

Her situation sucks. ?I`m sorry her child was hurting. ? But, I the fact that she's going to run right out again and pierce her kids ears makes me give her a major side-eye.?

remember that sometimes piercing ears is cultural. You shouldn't call things silly if you don't understand the complete reasoning. Just say that it's not for you. I pierced DDs ears because its tradtional in my family since... forever.. to pierce baby's ears at a very young age. I've never known anything else. As a matter of fact, I was surprised when I read on TB that so many people disagree with it.

To the OP, I'm so sorry for your baby girl. I too would get DDs ears re-pierced. Just think about your clothing attire or DDs placement in the future. ::hug::

  • The point of the post was not to get opinions regarding ear piercing it was because of MY reaction to the situation...this post could have been about MY reaction to her falling off the couch or bumping her head on something...geez...Thanks for the support..

    I don't know why I bother..
