cut out dairy from toddler's diet?

I have IBS and it's been suggested I cut out dairy from my diet and see if that helps. My DD has suffered from irregularity since a month before her 2nd bday and her ped has said it's possible she could do better w/o dairy but hasn't suggested any testing just for me to cut it out and see if if helps. Problem is she's on miralax to prevent another hard, painful stool so how will I know if it helps??? I hate to cut out dairy from either of our diets unnecessarily because we both need calcium - we're women! Help if you can!

Re: cut out dairy from toddler's diet?

  • Well, there are plenty of other ways to get dairy in your diet other than milk.  You can take vitamins, drink calcium fortified soy milk or OJ and eat foods that have calcium in them.  I would be wary of soy, though, b/c it can cause constipation too.  I'd definitely cut out cheese though.  I can't imagine that would be too missed in a diet.

  • agree re: calcium.  Cut it out and see what happens.  You can taper her off the mirilax.
