I'm not judging, I just don't get it. Does it change diapers? Plow snow?
I'm just of the mindset that I'll get the most economical, safest, convenient things and use any left over money for a savings account for college (or a car or wedding).

That's what i'm sayin. It better pay me to use it for that price.
I don't think that I could ever buy a $700 stroller. A $700 anything, tbh. I'm like you, I research, look for safety, etc. I just don't think I need to spend so much money on one thing. Plus, I just don't have that kind of money!
But I'd rather go with the safest instead of trendiest and put that money towards a college fund.
FWIW, one of my girlfriends got one thinking it was totally justified because 1) they can afford it and 2) she walks everywhere and would use it constantly. She's completely over it and can't wait to get something else. It's big, it's bulky and it's a pain in her butt. As soon as her baby is sitting up regularly she's getting a cheapy umbrella stroller. She admits that she regrets not listening to the suggestions.
Someone that owns one can probably answer better, but what I gathered from the 'expert' at Buy Buy Baby is that they steer better, do better over different terrains, are easier to use, and last a lot longer.
If I lived in Manhattan and would be walking everywhere, I'd probably want one. But I don't. I'll probably take baby shopping occasionally and for walks around the neighborhood, and that's about it. I'm going with a $300 highly rated travel system (includes the car seat).
We looked at the Uppa Baby and absolutely loved it. Could we afford it? yes. Would it be practical for us to buy it? no. We live in the suburbs and it doesn't make a whole lot of sense for our lifestyle. But if I lived in a city and wouldn't have to remove LO from a carseat to place in the stroller, I would absolutely, positively have bought it. If someone can afford it or gets it as a gift, godd for them!
It's the same reason why people buy $75,000 cars versus $20,000 cars. You get what you pay for - style, versatility, durability, brand recognition, etc.

From what I've read, safety! I read somewhere (can't remember the source so I can't speak to the story's credibility) about a young girl who was in one of those serious strollers and the stroller was hit by a car- stroller was only a little beat up and the little girl in the stroller was fine. Now, who knows why the hell the stroller was in the street or whatever, and it is unlikely its ever going to happen, but those things are sturdy!
Unlike a car or a purse, no one can tell how much you spent on a stroller just by looking at it. ?Lol, I agree that I would much rather buy a safe, economical stroller and put the remainder in ds's 529. ?

We bought it b/c we live in the city and walk all the time.
It has tons of great features that meet our needs.
And, while some of you will put your child in graco plastic crap, I will not. To each their own.
I'll add that my best friend got a $1200 Orbit Travel system ($1200 after all the attachments and accessories and crap) and her baby HATED IT. Screamed like she was being tortured everytime they put her in it. She ended up selling it on craigs list for $400 and getting a Graco Snugride I think. For their lifestyle (living in suburbs) - it was a ridiculous purchase.
My stroller, without car seat, was $379. For me this was worth it because I am super duper petite (5', 90lbs - on a non pregnant day). After trying out nearly every stroller in existence , I just couldn't spend the money on something that didn't work with my stature. There were several less expensive travel systems that I liked, but I just couldn't maneuver, fold, etc. them comfortably.
After lots of researching, I came across this and fell in love. I have cut a LOT of cost everywhere else and this was one of my splurges. DH thinks I "earned" it because I saved so much elsewhere (which I have never been good at!).
I can imagine that those who get strollers that are even more expensive get them for similar reasons. I think most of it depends on personal taste / needs. If I were going to be jogging every day with baby I would likely feel ok spending more money. Similar to running shoes - I am ok with cheap ones because I don't do much running. If I ran daily I would get something far superior to what I have. You get where I'm going with this, I'm sure.
the one i am getting is $500 and that is a hard enough pill to swallow.
it is the city select and it converts from a single to a double when we have a second. with all of its other amazing features, it is our biggest splurge for baby.
i spent a long time weighing the pros and cons, and thats what i think people do when they spend a large amount of money on a stroller. i also agree that for people living in the city, would want a more sturdy stroller to accomodate the city streets.
We bought it b/c we live in the city and walk all the time.

Sadly, not everyone can afford a $700.00 stroller. I did plenty of research and talked to plenty of women who had the same stroller I registered for/plan on buying. If you can? Good for you. If I had that much money to blow on one item for the baby? Sure, I would go ahead get the super expensive super "safe" stroller, but I can't. Judging women who can't spend an extravagant amount on a stroller and calling their choice "crap"? Not cool.

I got the Chicco travel system when I was pregnant with DS. I loved it. One thing that I wish that I would have thought about was the fact that we anticipated having another child. So, we spent the money on this travel system; however, now we have to figure out what we're doing when DC #2 arrives. Will we buy a double stroller? Will it be a cheap one because we don't want to invest more in strollers? I really wish I would have considered this before purchasing. I really like the Phil & Ted stroller that can accommodate two kids. They are super cool and seem to be a great stroller from the reviews.
We bought it b/c we live in the city and walk all the time.

I'm being judged b/c I can afford it. Not cool.
I can have my own opinion on baby gear too - and I personally think graco is crap. There are other options out there that are cheaper that are much better to me - Chicco being one of them.

Cheap Graco Plastic Crap is so much better rated in every review (BB, Consumer Reports) over the Uppa Baby.
You'll hate me then. I bought a $375 Bob with number 1 and I'm going to buy a $575 one for both kids (add accessories to both)...combined that certainly beats the $700 number. The Bob in my opinion is worth every penny. I used it every single day to work out and will after this baby arrives. I have so many friends who have spent $200-$300 on a jogger and hated them. They sold them for scrap basically and bought a Bob as soon as they could afford it.
It's all about your needs, research, what you can afford and what you're willing to spend....it's different for everyone.
um yeah 700$ it's a bit too much.. no need for one that cost that much.. it's a waste of money IMO.. i registered for a 200$ travel system from target... i just go for what i like adn think is cute..
And, while some of you will put your child in graco plastic crap, I will not.? To each their own.
?
Well aren't we high and mighty?
Lol, that's just what I was thinking. ?Ah well baby stores love suckers, and she probably went out and bought the most expensive of everything, just so that she didn't have to use "plastic graco crap" ??

Soooo this. Go for something safe and sturdy that falls under whatever price range is comfortable for you, be it a Bugaboo, Graco or whatever else...
I don't get it, either. Mind you, I have no problem spending money on gear to meet our needs...we're up to our 4th stroller counting the double we just got...but all of them combined cost less than $500. I don't care how other people spend their money, but even having seen the things I don't see them as being so horribly impressive as to be worth it. Heck, I could have one of the Cadilacs and I'd still want my cheapy umbrella and Snap 'n Go, the things are just too dang convenient to travel with and I ain't gate checking $700 worth of stroller.
The stroller I want is around $600. I have researched and researched and I feel that this would be the best stroller for our lifestyle. It gets awesome reviews, and it comes with a decent enough warranty. It is a side by side that is easy to fold and doesn't weigh a ton.
It is a double stroller, so it will last through the next few babies we are planning to have. I don't think I would have spent that kind of money on a single stroller knowing we were planning to add to our family, but to me it is absolutely worth it for a double stroller with every single feature I am looking for. If I could have found something similar at a lower price point that would have been great, but I haven't, so this is the one we are going with. And to me, that is perfectly OK. Everyone should do what they are comfortable with.

Graco is one of the highest rated brands out there in terms of saftey. In fact, two of their strollers are the highest rated. They also have the least amount of recalls on their record.

BB gave Uppa their highest rating, so I don't see why you'd say that. And go ahead and flame me, I want a $900 stroller - the bugaboo. Haven't made up my mind between splurging on that or getting the chicco, but what does sell me on it is it's lighter, maneuvers like a dream, and isn't as bulky. it also can function as an all-terrain stroller because of the suspension it has, so there would be no need for an additional jogger stroller for outings to the beach, zoo, etc.
