DH and I went and toured a daycare on Monday, one we were really interested in. Well towards the end of the tour the woman gave us the handbook. I was reading through the handbook later on that night and noticed a list of "supplies" that have to be purchased each month. For newborns it lists things like 1 box of rubber gloves, Some wipes, etc. It's stuff that I would probably bring for our LO, however it just struck me wrong that I was required to bring a list of items that practically supply the daycare instead of just for my LO. Another option was pay a $30. supply fee each month. That monthly fee isn't added to what we would be paying weekly either. We also have to supply all the stuff our LO needs like diapers, wipes, etc, *(which I suspected we would have to do). I've talked to numerous people that just rave about this place, so I know it's a good daycare.
I'm just wondering what's the norm. If most daycares require a supply list then I don't mind, however I don't wanna have to do something or pay for something that I don't have too, (or that isn't required at other places)
Re: Daycare question
They daycare that we are hoping to get into requests that each family bring 2 boxes of wipes each month, but that is it.
None of the daycares we toured had a supply list beyond the typical diapers, bottles, bibs, etc.
Sorry to butt in, but you must have read my mind.
If all goes well at the doctor next week, I will begin looking for a daycare as well. But I wondered, how did y?all come up with a list of places that you wanted to look at?
KC, if my memory serves me correctly, you and I live pretty near to each other. Do you think you could PM me to talk about some nearby places?
Thanks, girls! Butting out now. J
I didn't start looking until after first tri. I got the names of several places from coworkers. We only toured 3 places, based on recommendations and how close they were to home and work.
The daycare we picked just asked us to supply wipes and diapers.
MrsMoses, you might also want to go to the DHR website, you can look at all the daycares in a certain area.
That sounds kind of weird to me - we are required to supply all of our own diapers and wipes (as it sounds that one does too) so I don't see the sense in sending extra wipes or diapers. I guess gloves I can understand. Our daycare has a $100 supply fee twice a year, but they use it for "big ticket" items (in the infant room) and craft and other stuff when they get older.
If you really like it otherwise, I wouldn't let this deter you, but it may be worth asking the purpose of it!
