Anyone made a tutu?

Kennedy's first birthday party will be Easter weekend and is going to be bunny themed.

I am planning on ordering her invitations on etsy and they will have a bunny on them, and there is space for a picture.

I also just found this tutu/bunny ears set on etsy and LOVE it but it's $40. I figure I can buy some bunny ears and make the tutu for a lot cheaper. Have any of you made a tutu before? Have any tips?

What do yall think? Do you think this would be cute? I don't want anyone to think "playboy bunny" or anything like that. But I just thought it would be adorable with the theme....

Re: Anyone made a tutu?

  • I think it is adorable and perfect for an Easter weekend party. I've never done a tutu, but I am sure you could do that for a lot less!

  • Super cute.  I can't see anyone thinking "playboy bunny" unless she also has on pantyhose and heels. :) Otherwise, they're obviously already pervs/dirty minded.
  • I made one for my niece a few years ago and just bought tulle to make a few for Payton.

To make a super full one like the one above, you'll probably spend about $10 on tulle.  And then whatever type and length of ribbon you want.

You just cut your length of tulle into individual pieces that are double whatever length you want the tutu to be (shorter will be poufier, longer can still be full, but will hang down more) and tie each piece in a loose knot around your ribbon.  Keep pushing all of the knots together until you have enough to go all the way around her waist.  When you've got enough, you can fluff and arrange so that the waist looks "finished" and then tie it around her waist.  Super easy and shouldn't take more than an hour or two.

  • WHOA! What an adorable idea--- and how perfect for the weekend too =)

    Would totally go for the bunny outfit, very sweet...I've seen some really cute bunny cupcakes {Googled} little cottonball party favors, and "bunny food" {lettuce wraps}. Ohhhh to have a baby girl {nope, I'd go out of control!}

Also, I've seen this tutorial for homemade tutus {HERE} but haven't ever tried it myself...looks easy peasey.

  • I made one but with an elastic headband thing
  • I made Sarah's using this tutorial - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B7aSPMEn7S0.  The only difference is that I used and elastic headband instead of a ribbon for the waist.

  • I made the one in my siggy for Aubrey using the same you tube tutorial kristi used.  Super easy and only cost me about 6 bucks.
  • I think the idea is adorable!!!  I can't believe Miss K will be 1 soon.  I have no advice for the tutu.

  • I haven't made a tutu (yet) but I think your idea is absolutely adoreable!  Can't wait to see pictures from her party!
  • They are really easy to make. I buy the tulle that's by the wedding stuff at Hobby Lobby on little rolls like this:

It's really soft and easier for me to work with. Can't wait for the party...it's going to be so cute!!
