We were suppose to go to a birthday party of one of DD's preschool friends this weekend.  She got a stomach bug, so we didn't go.

Am I suppose to still give the child a present?

EDIT:  Yes!  Of course, I called and apologized.  She completely understood.  We were going to stop and get the present on the way, so I don't have one.

And on the invite they had some wording about giving donations to a non-profit instead of gifts, but if you do want to do a gifts, this is what he likes.

If I had already bought the present I would still give it. If I hadn't I wouldn't go out and buy one. I assume you called and let the host know you wouldn't be able to make it?

Yes, I would call the day of the party explain why we wouldn't be there, but let her know that I have a gift for the child and I'll call back later in the week to figure out how to get it to them.

If I already said I'd be there then yes, I'd still give them a gift.

I usually get a gift if we're invited somewhere even if we can't make it.

If we can't go to a party, we do a card, a personalized painting or drawing and gift cert.

If I had RSVP'd that we would be there, I would still do a gift or do a donation like they suggested.  If I was not going to be there in the 1st place, it would really depend on the child and how close of friends they were.  We have RSVP'd as a maybe to a party in a few weeks since it is scheduled for my DD's normal time. I am going to try and get her down early so we can go to at least part of the party but I bought a gift.
