Any pregos out there with Lupus? I am TTC my first child and am a bit nervous about being pregnant with Lupus. I stopped taking my meds last month and other than being tired, I've been pretty good (of course I'm not pregnant yet). I would like to hear from women who have experienced or who are experiences a high risk lupus pregnancy. I've been reading but I'm still not quite sure what to expect. Any feedback would be awesome. Thanks.
Re: Lupus
I have lupus and am pregnant with my 2nd child. I found out I had it in between pregnancies. I've never had any symptoms from it nor have I ever been on any meds, I just know I have it from my bloodwork. I do see a rheumatologist regularly though. My first pregnancy had lots of complications, but it had nothing to do with lupus.
Because of the lupus and previous issues I had to meet with Maternal Fetal Medicine in 1st tri. I had cervical ultrasounds every 2 weeks from 16-24 weeks and OB appointments every 2 weeks. Starting at 32 weeks I have non stress tests twice a week. I have growth ultrasounds every 3 weeks and biophysical profiles every week. My doc pulled me out of work at 21 weeks when my cervix started to shorten, but it has remained stable since.
One of the bigger issues with lupus is growth restriction, which is why they do the growth ultrasounds, BPP's and NST's towards the end. My doc also won't let me go past 39 weeks because of the lupus. I was told there is a higher rate of stillborns. So far, lupus has not played any role in this pregnancy, it's like I don't even have it. My baby was measuring almost 4lbs at 29 weeks, which is massive.
I wish you luck and if you have any questions feel free to ask.
I have lupus, I had 2 pregnancy losses prior to finding out which now the docs all agree probably contributed to my issues. When I told my rheumatologist I wanted to get pregnant he sent me to my Maternal Fetal Specialist to discuss possible complications and to devise a plan before getting pregnant. The plan was to be symptom free for a minimum of 6 months before trying. 6 months was up in August, but I was going to Florida with friends in Sept so we didn't start really trying until Oct, which is when I got pregnant! I don't know what meds you were on, but my rheumatologist and OB decided I needed to stay on my Plaquenil with the theory of an unhealthy mother cannot have a healthy baby - so despite the small margin of risk I am still on my meds.
