2 year old girl in rompers?

Romper debate for girls, since we have done it for boys...

I am obsessed with finding DD some rompers for the summer. I think it will still be adorable this year. Next year, at 3, not so much, but now I think it will still work. I mean, a cute romper, big bow and sandals and chubby legs?????!!

Your opinion? Not gonna be offended if you don't like them, just wondering! Note, we live in the South, where things are much more "traditional"

I mean, look how cute she was last summer!

  • im gonna go with (unless its a dress) - one piece "outfits" should be for 1 and under.

  • Hmmmm I normally don't like them on babies over 1-1 1/2ish. I guess it depends on the outfit though.
  • DD is starting to use the potty, so anything with a snap at the crotch or one-piece is out for us.
  • I love them on little girls!  DD will be rocking them this summer... she's on the petite side :) I bought dd this (at 40% off) and think it's so sweet!

  • My MIL did buy DS a romper for this summer. I don't know...I loved them last year, but I also think he is too "old" for them now...like they are too babyish.

Huh.  Really?  I never thought about it before.  I just bought my little guy a few one piece outfits that he'll be wearing this Spring/Summer and he's turning one in two weeks.  I like them and they're the only things my husband seems to be able to dress him in.  Oh well, I guess people will be whispering behind my back.

  • Love them!! But, I am deeper in the south than you are and it is the standard thing here for them to wear in the summer (boys and girls).
  • DD still rocks them and will wear them this summer. They are easy, she can't take them off and they are out the window when potty training comes around, so I will enjoy them while I can!

  • I saw (and bought) the CUTEST one piece outfit today at target. can't find it on their site yet. It's one piece, but it's shorts with like, a little bit of an elastic gathering at the waist. I fully admit to sucking at description, but it looks adorable on her, and it is def toddler/preschooler appropriate and doesn't look baby.

ETA - the poster above me - it looks like in her siggy her DD is wearing what I'm talking about. LOL

  • They are the norm here for boys too in the summer. When it's over 100 degrees I want to put them in as little clothes as socially acceptable! I think the term "romper" leads ones mind to a more babyish outfit, than what I am thinking.

I've seen them - so cute.  It's a retro style tank top short one piece set style from the late 70s.  I had one in my hand and then thought "how the hell is she going to get this off" and had to put it back.

  • Let's hereby call them "one pieces". Ruling made

  • Dd had a couple gymboree rompers I loved. I think the biggest size we bought was 12-18. I would say they are for 2 & under but it really doesn't matter. I wouldn't do a double take or anything if I saw a kid in one.

Yes, is it the one with the circle of dots? That's the one I got. can't wait for warmer weather! I was looking for longer jeans and just could not resist it.

Yup, thats the one! I couldn't resist either! We randomly had 85 degree weather, so I had to pull it out for the the beach. Too cute!

  • I was debating this in my head recently, too.  DD is pretty petite, so I think they will look cute on her.  Not that a girl has to be petite to wear them, but I do think they look a little odd on older girls (2+) or little girls that look older.  KWIM?  I hope that doesn't offend anyone for some reason.  Anyway, DD has one so far, and that's probably all I'll get her since we plan on trying to potty train in the late spring/summer.  I say go for it though!

  • FFS, dress your child the way you want to.

If I asked everyone's opinion on how to dress my child and tried to please everyone = because it mattered so much to me....I'd be on the floor in my living room, crying - because at least one person in the world wont like what he's wearing, therefore,  I couldn't leave the house and he'd be running around me naked and cold - probably developing some sort of psychosis.

  • I am going with a no on this one.  I loved DD in those when she was smaller but now it doesn't seem right.
  • My DD had a bunch last summer.  This summer...she will not be in rompers.  I just think she'll be too old.  Even if we wouldn't be potty training I wouldn't do it.

I do think there's an "age limit."  JMO  :)

  • I just ordered 2 for DD from oldnavy. I think they're cute and casual for the hot summer days.

I love these and would definitely put a girl in them, up to probably 5 years, why not?  I wore stuff like this to play in the yard when I was like 8, they were really popular in the 80's.

  • I remember wearing outfits like that as a kid.   I had to untie the shoulders and pulled the whole thing down, like a bathing suit, when I went to the bathroom.

Oh, I like that. I remember wearing similar stuff when I was a kid. I would buy that for my 2 1/2 yr old, no problem. I think it's cute. I like stuff like that and bubble rompers.
