Monitoring while on Clomid

I called my RE's office today to discuss starting a Clomid cycle. She told me to take it days 3-7 and use an ovulation predictor kit and then bloodwork on day 21. I asked about a midcycle ultrasound and I was informed that they do not have that practice.  I talked to the nurse about my concerns of HOM and she said Clomid only raises the chance of getting pregnant by 5%.  She said she was going to have RE call me tomorrow.  Ugh. Not sure if I want to or if I should pursue taking Clomid!

Re: Monitoring while on Clomid

  • Maybe you can go right to injectables?

  • I had the same question today. I just changed protocol today and when I was on injectibles I was monitored every 2-3 days and now that I'm on Clomid + Metformin they said I don't have to come in until CD 13, which I find odd.  I'm having a discussion with the RE tomorrow as well.

     Good luck to you!

  • AShoes- Please let me know how you make out! I need to start tomorrow if I decide to proceed.. When would you start?
  • I personally wouldn't take clomid without being properly monitored.  It is just too risky not knowing what is going on.

There is a poster on this board that had something like 8 mature follicles on 50mg clomid.  If she had gone unmonitored she would have put herself it a potentially hard and risky situation.

She was monitored so her cycle was cancelled but it is just not worth it.

I would find a new doctor.

  • I will certainly let you know what I find out.  However, I did start with the Clomid tonight since I was on that + Follistum the last cycle so I figure no matter what happens I will still have to take it.

This.  The statistics are just that, but since your doctor is not interested in doing it right I would recommend not doing the cycle w/that dr. or finding other dr. who will monitor you.  I've heard this is common with regular Ob/gyn's, most RE's won't use Clomid w/o monitoring as they know better the risks.  GL!
