My due date is Wednesday (yikes, 2 days to go!) and I am not dilated at all yet. I have an appt on Wednesday, but assuming I'm still not dilated but Dr. has scheduled me to go into Winnie Palmer for Cervidil on Thursday pm. I was really hoping NOT to be induced and I get that the Cervidil is just for cervix ripening but I'm still nervous. Anyone have experience with this drug?
Thanks
BTW, it's good to see this board a bit more active!
Re: Cervidil?
I didn't get cervadril, but something called misopropal instead. It does the same thing. I was a fingertip dilated and my cervix was softened but pretty much had nothing going.
I went in on Thursday at 6am at 41 weeks and was given the misopropal up there...and waited all day. Conractions started but they were mild later that afternoon. I went on Pitocin the next morning and all day Friday. Then Saturday started it again and I finally, FINALLY, had Allison at 1028pm that night.
I know that is not encouraging for you...I was the small percentage of ladies that induction takes a long time for. I hope you're not in that boat!
My blog
I had Cervadil during my induction. The nurse placed the tiny pill in the cervix to help ripen and dilate. I didnt feel a thing! I was also given pitocin to speed up the contractions.
It should be fine. Hope it works well for you!
I ended up with a Csection but that was b/c DS was sunny side up and had a knot in his umblical cord.
Good Luck with the Cervadil and the delivery!
I was induced at 36 weeks with my son due to severe pre-eclampsia. I wasn't dilated at all, so they started Cervidil the night I checked into the hospital with plans to start Pitocin first thing in the AM. By the next morning I was starting to dilate and was in a regular labor pattern with steady contractions. By 11am my water broke on it's own and I was 5cm dilated. I may be in the small minority, but Cervidil worked wonders for me! They did have to use some mini doses of Pitocin on me when my contractions stalled out at around 8cm, but I was also on a magnesium drip which can stall out labor.
I hope your experience goes just as smoothly!
I was given Cervidil at 33 weeks. I got the first one at night along with pitocin. The next morning, nothing was happening so they gave me another one. 2 hours later nothing. At that point my blood levels were way out of whack and my bp was out of control. I ended up in the OR.
Don't use my experiance as a guideline for what will happen to you though. I was only 33 weeks and was not ready for that yet. Good luck and keep us posted!!!
I was induced at 40 weeks. I went in the night before (was only 1.5 cm dilated at that time) was giving Cervadil and an ambiem. The next morning at 9 am, I was 3 cms dilated and was given pitocin. My doctor broke my water at 10. I had no epidural (due to medical reasons)..by 1:30 I was at 8 cms--got a little bit of morphin and hit 10 cms at 4:30. The pitocin did make me dilate too quickly and they had to turn it down.
I started pushing at 5 and had my son 5:49--they did have to use the suction. He was a pretty big baby too.
