which name for which baby?

We have a bunch of girl names and we'll wait untill we see them until we gave them their own name that fits perfectly;)

So, how do you/did you decide which baby gets which name? Look, birth order or something else?

Re: which name for which baby?

  • we planned on naming them at birth but ended up giving them names in utero--just kinda naturally happened. and i liked bonding with them by calling them by name vs. A and B/ 1 and 2. the names totally suited the babies once they arrived.

  • We're having two boys. One of our names is a family name from DH's side, and he's always wanted to use it for his first-born. So Baby A has had that name from the beginning, and we chose another name for Baby B.

Now I have a scheduled c-section, though, so I don't know if Baby A will actually be the first one out or not. No matter; we're keeping their names as they've been through the whole pregnancy regardless. But we need our doctor to tell us who he's taking out first so they get the names they've had all along!

  • the name we decided on first was for baby A and the second name we came up with went to baby B. i knew who was where and double checked with the Dr. before he took them out (c-section). i liked being able to call them in utero by their names :)

Unless there's an emergency - under normal circumstances Baby A should be the first one out.  That baby is closest to the cervix (which is how they designate the babies as A and B as I'm sure you know) so that's the baby that's right at the incision site for a bikini incision.

My dh was convinced by profile u/s pics early on that baby A looks more like my side of the family and B looks like his.  So, he started calling them by names accordingly - Andrew for A (b/c that's the name I loved) and Kevin for B (the name he chose).  Who knows if it'll stick, we'll see at birth if we decide to change it.  Unlikely though!

  • We agreed on Lily really early on, so we assigned that name to Baby A.

After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!

  • since our boys names weren't that different "Grayson and Gibson" we didn't feel it mattered who looked like what... so we just decided before they were born that baby A would be Grayson and B was Gibson - mostly b/c the 3rd letter of the names is A and B :)

turns out that Gibby is our big chunk baby - so it worked out great b/c we can tell people "Gib is Big spelled backwards" and then they never forget who is who!

  • our names inutero were just endearing nicknames (slosh and bubble.... aww i miss that).  we had the two names picked but waited till we saw them to assign who got which.  audrey just looked SO audrey, and i kind of always thought baby A would be vivienne.  so it worked out well.  although i wouldn't name them until day 2.  the nicu nurses were a little impatient about us naming them, but i didn't get to see them well enough to say until day 2.

  • We picked our sons' 1st names, my 13 yr old (at the time) DD picked their middle names..

Then, noone else in the family was allowed to see the boys until my DD did, and she held each of them, then gave them their names..... we figured this way, if they didn't like their names in the future, they could blame their big sissy!

  • We had a short list of names, about 3 boys names and 5 girl names, plus a few middle names.  We waited until we met them to name them, and they were unnamed for about a week.  I remember what a big deal it was in the NICU when we finally named them, LOL!  We gave Nora her name b/c she had such a sweet little face; she seemed so feminine and pretty and porcelain that a soft, sweet name like Nora seemed fitting.  Tess was feistier, she was the one always pulling out her feeding tube and c-pap and IVs; so we gave her the feisty Tess handle.  Holden was just a Holden.  We still think, what if we had named him Alan, or Harrison, and are like, "NO WAY!!!  He's a Holden!"

  • We had both names picked out, but waited until they were born to assign them.  After the c-section, they were both in their warmers being assessed and the doctor asked about names.  My husband immediately knew, and he said, 'that's Chiara and that's Siena, definitely'.  I'm so glad he did that, because it may have taken me forever to decide.

  • We don't know genders yet, but we have two full names picked out for both genders.  We figure if they are boy/girl we are okay, but when it comes to same sex we would just name based on who came out first.  You have given me a lot to think about ;)
