Quiet versus Chaos for babies naps...

With DD (she is almost 5 now) she could sleep through all kinds of noise. TV on, cleaning, etc. At night it was silent but during the day she slept in the family room. We could also run around and let her nap in her car seat for a few months. She was born at 41 weeks.

The twins seem to only be able to sleep when it is dead silent. No noise machines, music, voices, etc. The minute we go into a store they both scream and wake up.

No real question here - just wondered if anyone else had babies that need complete silence. My mom read about some connection between premature babies and needing more quiet environments.

  • This doesn't really answer your question, and I can't remember where I read it, but some advice said not to keep things completely quiet and dark when the babies are sleeping during the day.  As much as you want them to nap, I guess it helps babies to learn that the quiet, dark nighttime is when you're supposed to sleep, and they'll eventually adjust accordingly.  Maybe your babies will sttn sooner?

  • I read that we should get them used to noise.  We've been using a noise machine since they came home.  And my dog barks if someone comes to the door or he thinks someone is at the door.  I got them used to noise right away.  My cleaning guy will even go into their room and vacuum and clean while they are sleeping.  We don't whisper.
