I had 26 photos printed (on photo paper). One pic for each letter of the alphabet (and I printed the letter on the photo, but you could just write it on later, put in a little piece of paper, etc.) Then I put them in a cheap little "brag book" photo album.
It's nice because they're all pictures of things that DD recognizes and she's in lots of the photos. I didn't "stage" any of the photos, but you certainly could just take a picture of the object.
The whole thing, including doing one-hour photo for the pics, was about $6.20.

I did a photo book from shutterfly.com. Each page was a letter and a picure or pictures for each letter...ex...U for uncles, M for mom, t for toys, B for beach, etc. I think shutterfly or one similar has templaates for a book on their site.
